Server setup problems

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Server setup problems

Here is the setup I have on my computer:
My modem runs through a Linksys BEFW1154 router. I have my phone line(broadband phone setup) and my computer connected to the router. So I need to configure everything so that my phone still works. I followed the instructions Earendil had posted, but when when I changed to those settings my internet wouldnt work (and also my phone). So here is what I have right now. My TCP is set to use following IP 192.168.1.101. My router obtains IP automatically. I have my Port Range Forwarding for 2302-2400(to cover all bases). I tried setting FL to port 2305 and only forwarding 2305, but it didnt work either. Right now my server connects to Global server and completes that process. But people still cant see my server. Could someone please help. Thanks.

There is a caveat for broadband phones but it depends where you place the phone, before or after the gateway. <pet peeve>Remember the gateway is what the sales dweebs associated with these gateway manufacturers call routers but they do much more than just route!<per peeve over> Broadband (BB ) phones can be placed in either location but I prefer after the gateway to ensure the gateway is the last thing connected to the Internet and by far the most stealthy.

If you connect the BB phone after the gateway, your gateway should support QOS or Quality Of Service. With this enabled and set to the right queuing matching what the BB phone uses, then you should have priority access between the BB phone and the Internet through your gateway. This insures no dropouts in your BB phone conversations. The next thing to do is read the phone's requirements for ports and ADD them to the gateway along with flserver ports They should never overlap and with 65,536 possible ports that usually never happens. The downside is you could never use those ports your BB phone uses on your LAN but that's usually of no consequence.

If you connect the BB phone before your gateway, you do not have to worry about QOS and opening the BB phone's ports in your gateway. In fact you have to do this if you gateway doesn't support QOS! With the BB phone before the gateway, all BB phone related traffic is intercepted before your gateway and your gateway never has to route anything related to the BB phone traffic. Usually BB phones will pass anything else on any other port other than the ports it needs for the BB phone. So with the BB phone before the gateway you can setup the gateway as I mention in the other post under The Complete Guide to Setting Up an FL Server . The downside is you now have a device connected to the Internet that may not be as stealthy as your gateway and thus may be detected and exploited. Still everything is safe downstream of the gateway and that is the most important stuff to protect.

Hope that helped. If not feel free to set up some time on TeamSpeak via email and we can actually talk through it.

EDIT: I wondered why all my black eyes using B - ) (take away the spaces) wasn't working. Only B ) (take away the space) can make this .
