Freelancer server not working

Hope someone can help. I have set up a dedicated Freelancer server on a Windows Server 2003. Everything went fine and I run the server (v 1.0) and I try to connect my client (running on another machine. I find the server in the server list and double click it to connect. It sits waiting for about 30 seconds with a message about it taking to long for it to connect to the server. After 30 seconds it fails to connect. The router is configured to forward all ports to the server and nothing else should be stopping it. I have set up other game servers on this server with no problem. Hopefully someone else has seen this and can help. TIA!

What OS is your client running? if XP, check to make sure IPv6 is not enabled on the NIC. Also, if IPv6 is enabled on your server, you probably won't be able to connect to it, either.

Thanks for the response, here is some more info:

Well, it is running on Windows Server 2003, but I am not sure how to tell IPv6 is running on it. I have been trying to work around the problem and I have tried changing the port number as well and that didn't help. Basically I see the server info in the server list and everything looks good, but the ping column for my server. It comes up with "????" and after about 30-45 seconds it changes to "--". I don't see anything wrong other than this, but according to the Readme.rtf, to join a server, it must respond to the ping request from the client first. I see that is the problem, but I have no idea why. The client is running on XP and I can connect to other servers without a problem. I can't even connect to it as a local server either. Apparently the same problem. Any ideas?

Is your firewall discarding ping , or have u placed the server in the DMZ ?
don't know if this helps or not, but maybe bring something else to mind.

Yes, the server is in the DMZ. I have set up other games and never needed to adjust the firewall due to this. All unrequested packets are automatically forwarded to the server. I have had other people ping the server using the public IP on my cable modem and it gets routed to the server and the response is returned, so that isn't the problem. It really ticks me off that I get everything up to par and the clients still can't connect for some reason. I see a lot of freelancer servers on the net and can connect to almost all of them without any problems. Yet, the few I see including mine that has ???? and subsequently -- in the ping column I can't connect to. I can't think of anything else to try and that is why I posted here. Somebody, help!! I can't be the only one with this problem???

My thoughts now lean towards something OS specific, like user right assignments or something else behind the scenes. Any more ideas?

To tell if IPv6 is installed on your server, there are 2 ways:

1. go to the properties page of your network card. If it's listed and checked, uncheck it.
2. (easy way) pull up the LAN server list in your FL client- if the IP address looks "normal"- 192.168.xx.xx, then you don't and it's some thing else causing the problem. If it looks like a MAC address- 00:3c:83:etc, then you have IPv6 on the card

as far as OS,, we just deployed a 2003 server and their is a bug [ issue,it will not accept login or connection without a pssword,,, don't know if this helps,, game dosn't use a user/password connection,, i'll look into further for u. but it may have something to do with it ,, see if u can use management console to give the application Network permissions, and see if that can fix u up.

First off, thanks to you guys throwing the suggestions around, it has been helpful in this troubleshooting process.

IPv6 is not running on this box, so that shouldn't get in the way.

Update- Well, I used the FLMonitor to install the server as a service (nice utility I might add.) I created an account and gave it log on as a service rights to the box. Then I changed the FLMonitor service to use the new account. Only problem now is that the Global Servers are offline and I can't test it to see if it worked. I'll follow up after I get a chance to test again.

More to follow...

Okay, I have tried setting up a number of ways as a service and with different credentials and the same problem persists. I can find the server in the list and cannot connect to it no matter what I do. I have setup the server and the ip is 68.67.201.153 the name is =CCCP= Server, no password. See if you find it, that you can connect. I have had others try before and still no luck. I can't be the only person running this on Windows Server 2003. There has to be a way to fix it so that players can connect to it. Any more advice? TIA!
