Evo Server help

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Evo Server help

I have been trying to run an Evo server, and I did everything it said in the FAQ here. It shows up, but it has no ping and is not connectable. Any suggestions?

I am helping him, and we are having the biggest problem with IP addresses and MACs and Gateways. Specifically what Earendil said here on the sticky on the top of the page.

6. Setup your gateway. Now many manufacturer's call these things routers but they do much more than just route! Things like logging on, DHCP server, NAT server (hardware firewall) and more so I call it a gateway. The gateway connects between your own network (called Local Area Network or LAN) and the Internet (sometimes called the Wide Area Network or WAN). The gateway must have a few things set up to allow the FL server to the Internet and this is usually done by browsing the gateway LAN IP address.
- Set the server with a fixed LAN IP address. Get the MAC address from the server through the status screen or ipconfig /all in a DOS window. Then set this MAC address to a LAN IP address of your choice in the gateway (sometimes the screen is called Host IP). Say you have 192.168.0.1 as your gateway (gateways end with 1), then you could set any LAN IP address of 192.168.0.2-254. We'll say 192.168.0.200.

Any help with this would be very much appreciated by both of us!

I'll be glad to help. Post away, email me, ask to set up some time on AIM or even set up some time on any of the TeamSpeak servers out there including TLR's own!

@Anyone - Remember the only reason you'd want to fix a LAN IP address to a specific MAC address (and by extention that FL server that has the NIC with that specific MAC address) is to insure any INCOMING requests on your port are routed to your FL server with flserver. Since a normal DHCP server will just pick from a range of LAN IP addresses, there is usually no guaruntee you'll get the same LAN IP address every time. Fixing a LAN IP address to a MAC address WILL guaruntee this.

Is it the gateway you are having trouble with? Send us the model# and we can find the manuals and push you through it.

Thanks very much, Earendil.

Roc, you should send him an email about what you are trying to do, and he can probably help you out. SInce you are the one trying to set up the server, then you should tell him exactly what's wrong.
