Coding advice from the experts?

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Coding advice from the experts?

Good afternoon,

We are in the process of putting together a server for Lancer and have a person doing some coding for modding for us. He's got what we are looking for in ships, and some other things including weaps levels allowable on certain ships, hull and shild things, but there are some more server side stuff we'd like to see and are having a problem finding where to look for the coding to get some of these things done. Things we have seen on other servers and want to include in ours.

So, I humbly come to the experts in this area to see if I can get you guys (an possibly gals) to give us a hand in either finding where to get these codes or just if you guys could put them all in one place so that we can find them easily. Honestly its just a few things that we think are way kewl. As soon as we get The Dragon up and running I will announce it, but as I'm sure you guys all know it takes some time and a talented programmer to get it ready.

So, if I could get the code for the following things I would be most appreciative.

Player looting (of cargo held in holds by trader players)
Spinning planets
Killable bases and possibly docking rings
Loss of tech on death (if you can that is)
AI shield recharging during fights
Random encounters (battleship and so forth)
movable astroids (I beleive we saw this in the Starfyre TNG mod)
adding news items in bars (news items that pertain to what is currently going on in the server)

I have tried searching through the forums but havent found what I am looking for. Maybe if you guys dont want to just put the coding here in one place, you can tell me what forum to look in and what key words to use as everything I've tried has come up rather empty. I'm just trying to do the footwork for my programmer as he is working hard on the mod and doesnt need to be rummaging through forum threads to find what I have asked him to create.

Anyway, any and all help in this will be greatly appreciated. Thanx to you all, in advance.

Are these mods 100% server-side, that is, will they work without the individual clients having to do anything?? If so this could revolutionize our LAN games.

Additionally, does modding the power, max shield, and cargo hold of existing ships work server side, or is that on a per-client(...) basis?

@vrmlbasic - Please check out a detailed listing of what our Boston SuperMod entails here. Everything listed EXCEPT for the $1M mission and it's opposing faction the Terminators, is done server-side.

As for Wan's post, all but the spinning planets could I confirm are server-side.
