How many can I hold?
I'm considering getting an old system for use as a dedicated game server for my clan, running FL among other things (not at the same time of course). Now theoretically, how many people should I be able to accomodate, assuming no mods like Battleship Encounters, just plain vanilla FL on:
P3 500-800Mhz (their stock varies day by day, but I'm looking for something in this range)
512 PC-133 RAM
Windows 2000 Professional (Bought OEM, won't use anything else)
Ioncross Server Manager
5Mbps Download/1Mbps Upload Cable connection
As I said, just and old, cheap used desktop I can pick up for about $200CDN, plus some money for RAM and the KVM switch. I can always go a little higher and get a decent AMD or P4, but I'd like to see where I stand with this one. Primarily because it's a desktop-layout machine and I have very few places to put a tower.
I played a fair bit on a Level2 back-up server running on a 600Mhz Celeron, 256 RAM with maybe 10-15 people at a time, and it wasn't perfect, but it was playable most of the time.
