FL Server on Win2003 Server

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

FL Server on Win2003 Server

Hi everybody,

i want to start a FLServer on a Windows 2003 server, but it freezes the whole system when you press the OK button after entering the server name and player amount.
Anybody faced or fixed that issue ?

Thanks in Advance

More information would certainly help.

Did you install FLServer as the admin? Does it have the access it needs? What errors are you seeing in the eventviewer?

I have not attempted to run FLServer on 2k3 but I do support many 2k3 servers running legacy applications. The main issue that I have found is in the difference for permissions between 2k3 and previous NT versions. You need to install the application as the admin. You may need to lighten up on the security settings for it to be able to work.

thank for the quick answer. Here are the wanted information:

- the win2003 server is freshly installed (us version)
- no other services are running yet (no personal firewall, no anti virus)
- I am running as a local admin, havent joined a domain etc.
- installed all hotfixes and the latest directx version

when i start the server the dialog appears to enter name and players. If i press ok the server starts loading and the whole system freezes after 2 seconds.

->The event log is empty
->No entries in the FLServer log

I have no hardware issues on that machine.

Does FLServer need more privileges to run ?

Thanks,

I have run FL server on a 2K3 box and to tell the truth it has a ton more overhead than it should. I have since switched to XP pro and simply reboot the box at least every week.

On to your question. It seems that I had to enable directX to get it to function correctly. No I do not mean install but after you install direct X9c then run dxdiag and it seems like there were a couple of check boxes hidden deep in there that will allow the box to use directX. It is turned off by default for security reasons.

Try that.

Looks like Wan is right on the money. Here is a link that may help.

1. i activated the directx in the display settings and tested all the stuff with dxdiag -> no problems
2. the hotfix for the buffer overflow in directx is fixed in 9.0b version, which i am using.
