New Dedicated UK Server

Hi all
Ive setup freelancer on a dedicated server which should run 24/7 unless i run into any problems.
Its sat on a 1 meg line so i should be able to get quite a few connecting.
It is set to only 15 players at the moment untill i get a feel, cus i dont want a laggy server.
Mods are allowed but no cheats like cloaking or inv shields.
I will also be adding some server side mods as i get familiar with it.
If you have any ideas on any mods which are good out there then give me a shout.
You can also register on my website which will have its own forum for any gaming servers which i run.

Good luck but Mods on a pure server or server that doesnt have that exact mod will make it laggy no matter what.

Also you say 1mbit but you forget the important factor in any server the upload speed. If its a standard cable {128k up} or DSL{256k up} 1mbit connection then 15 is about the best you can hope to host with little lag and thats with out peopke using mods.

Get one player using a extra speed Cruise/Thrusters and one using a Beam weapon and your server will crash, so I would rethink the idea of allowing mods.

Thanks for the info..

Yea i have 256k upload. I already know about that being the most important thing.
What good admin progs are there so i can stop people using mods?
If you know of any other usefull progs then i would be very gratefull.

For admin programs, there's the great IONCROSS FL Server Operator as well as my own FLstat which generates player rankings in HTML.

Cryogenius is right. I use all those tools as well as a couple from AkaTaka (his website is Click here). They are great for about 75% of the cheaters I get. It's the other 25% that are the real issues! Those are caught through a trusted server police force and other longtime trustworthy players.

Pinger is definitely correct about the modding and it's effect on hogging bandwidth. In the past one sysadmin tested certain mods and found traffic increased by 10 fold!
