some n00b server questions

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

some n00b server questions

i found the line in the file that changes how much stuff you lose if you die.
i have some questions about it. does it only effect pc's, or npc also?
i want to find a good balance, i think 100% is very harsh, especially for new players. but i want something fair for more advanced players also.

so if i set it to say 50% for example:
a player dies he loses 50% of cargo.

if a player kills a npc does it drop 100% loot or 50%?
if a player kills another player can he collect 50% loot only or 100%?

next question:

are there any other setting similer to this that can be changed easily?
things like starting cash or whatnot?
is there a FAQ or some guide someone can point me to that might answer these and other questions i will probably have?

I have seen servers that change the starting cash, ships and locations but I dont know where these files are, or how easy it is to change.

Out of intrest, where did you find this file containg how much loot you use? What is it called?

here is the default folder it is in:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE
the file is names freelancer.ini

in the [startup section you can put a ; infront of the movie_blah lines, and it will stop showing the intro movies.

go down to [server and look for :

death_penalty = 100

change the 100 to whatever % of cargo you want players to lose on death.

The file he found the 100% loss of cargo when destroyed is in the freelancer.ini file in the EXE directory under Freelancer directory.

In my mind FL is too easy as it is keeping the ship and all mountable weapons and such after you respawn. Have never heard of anyone messing with that number or it's consequences.

In the same directory described above there is a file called mpnewcharacter.fl plus another file called newcharacter.ini in the DATA/CHARACTERS directory. I believe the later is the file that lists most of the initial conditions you are mentioning. Please correct me if I am wrong. More detail would be in the modding forum no doubt.

in the first file you mentioned there is a line:

money = %%money%%

do you just put in a value instead of the %%money%% ?

the second file didnt make much sense.
