100% CPU Usage?

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

100% CPU Usage?

Got a brand new server for the [MC Freeport 7 Server today. We got this server to fix the horrible lag issues we were experiening on our old server.
Our new server is a 2.4 Gig proc with 1 Gig of Memory.
Within and hour or so of running the server, we noticed that the CPU Usage was Spiking into the 90 Percentile. Often it would reach 100%. The only thing running on this server is FL. We also use Joe Boomz's Server Operator.

Anyone got any ideas on this?

Thanks,

how many players were online at the time?

CPU load hitting 90%, 2 things to check.

Was FLSO updating:

-the player lists at that time
-doing Stats web output

Check the Server load, if the server was full and Server load is over 350ms then good chance a player is using a mod unless theres a full scale war on.

Yes, need the answers to the good questions from Pinger and uk server. Although when FLSO is running and churning on my server through character files and lists, it takes up to 30% usage in small time amounts regardless of the amount of players. My server stats, an Athlon XP 3200 (2.2 GHz), 400 MHz FSB, 1 GB memory.

I have seen other reasons for this "mad CPU" usage. Occassionally I get flserver locked up with 99% CPU usage. FLSO thinks it's running so it's not restarting flserver. The odd thing is in the event viewer it mentions an event ID that can't be interpreted by the server. This implies something from another players 'puter was sent to flserver and it decided to churn on it full blast. It lists a DLL or other files of flserver as having the error which changes and the files listed are not consistant.

Other than that I have seen "mad CPU" usage with the pre-patch flserver but I think that may have been the symptom of the big memory leak. With the patch flserver's memory leak is much smaller.

Thanks for the reply guys, I acutally responded here a couple of days ago, and for some mysterious reason my reply never made it, so I will try again.

Was FLSO refreshing - We get the mega CPU Usage weather or not FLSO is even active. flserver is hogging all the CPU Usage.

Was it posting Stats - We are currently not using flstats

flserver locked up - I have not seen that problem on my system, so I don't think thats our problem, although we have had some pretty weird things like going into Task Manager to see multiple instances of flserver being listed (up to 5 of them) and all of them taking 90% of CPU usage. Don't ask me how thats possible, lol.

pre-patch - We are currently patched to V1.1

Yes, there at the end, before we moved to this server, we were loosing player folders like crazy. I think we lost 300 players (ACK!) Since we deleted all the player folders, that seems to have been solved, and things on that side are much more stable.

Thanks for the input again, I really appreciate the help,
