chatting with users on server pc

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

chatting with users on server pc

Hay

Is there a program what allowes you to chat with users on the system where the FL server is running?
The only way i know right now to do that, is to start the game on a second pc and log in on you're own server. It would be much more easy if you could do that with a small program that runs on you're server pc.
I have been looking for quite a while for it, but couldn't find anything what would do this.

I also am looking for a program to move users to other systems while they are logged in. As far as i know right now, it only can be done when they are off-line.
So maybe i am searching for something that doesn't exist :-)

I guess i didn't explain it correctly.
I want to chat to users from the server pc, not from the game itself.
I know i can send messages to the universe, to systems, en to users from the server program, but i cant read the common messages send on the server, for that i have to start the game myself, and log into the server myself.

insted of the chat with system, or universe, use chat with player, tho they need to reply to console, or u wont hear them

I know, but that is just the thing i would like. Chatting to a person works fine, but i also would like to read all the messages send to 'system' on the server.

Ironcross manager won't do that eather.

Don't hold your breath for it buddy, it's not possible until m$ or DA tells us where system chat information is actually stored in memory. If there isn't a way to do it with the current server software, there's no way for me to get it. Sorry!

Ok, thx, that is an answer that i need.
Lets hope MS will give the info someday.

And do you know or there is a way to move active users around the systems?

The IONCROSS Server Operator will allow you to move players between systems. You can download it from the downloads section or from www.ioncross.com.

You can get all system chats (the blue colored chats) at the server! I regularly do this for NY system but not for any other systems as I would have dozens of chat boxes up all at once. The catch is someone must be in that system before you bring up the system chat box or it doesn't list it as a system chat box to be able to be brought up. While the system chat box is up all chats in the system from anyone in that system sent out as a system message will show up in that system chat box! I'm catching quite a few PvPers in Liberty (specifically NY system) because someone responds on system chat with something like "Hey N00bship, stop hitting me! Now I have to spend money on nanos!" or something like that.

To change someone in the game from one place to another is more than just changing the current location. Since the player is seeing and hearing things from that location, it is stored in memory and being accessed at that time. You would have to initiate an equivilant jump gate sequence from anywhere to anywhere OUTSIDE the game and I don't know of anything doing that. This is easy when you logged off because there is only one thing linking you to some place, the location as saved in the FL MP saved game file. The audio and visual clues are part of FL data files and are not be involved in a saved game except when starting up.

How does a player choose to reply to the console, I see no selection for it? Is it some command placed before the chat message?

Post Thu Nov 06, 2003 7:51 pm

A player should see the chat message in green if CONSOLE is directly chatting to that player. Players will see the chat message in white if the CONSOLE is chatting to the star system (I think) or the whole universe (I know).

If CONSOLE is directly chatting to a player and the player wants to directly chat back to CONSOLE, hit enter and open chat window, hit up or down arrow to direct the message to CONSOLE and type away.

If CONSOLE is sending a message to the star system, he will see any system message any player in the star system sends. But if CONSOLE is sending a message to the universe then there is no way a player's message can be seen by CONSOLE even though he direct a message to console. It has something to do with how flserver's chat windows are setup.

EDIT: A re-read correction

"hit enter and open chat window, hit up or down arrow to direct the message to CONSOLE and type away."

uhhh. . . . . so, this is the answer to my question?

sorry for being a slow learner

Hehe! Sorry LP but I didn't know the condition of which the chat was being sent to you. Yes, you can direct a chat message directly to the CONSOLE as mentioned using the up/down arrow key. But the CONSOLE won't get it unless through flserver, CONSOLE has the chat window that is directly linked to the player, you, opened. If CONSOLE is chatting through a system chat then directed messages won't be seen by the CONSOLE.

I'll verify this tonight just to be sure
