Pixbo''s Lab Server Down - Good Alternatives?

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Pixbo''s Lab Server Down - Good Alternatives?

Just wondering, has anyone had any contact with the admin of "Pixbo's Lab Server" or know what's happened to said server?

It appears to be down again and seems to have been so for the best part of a week now - it's been up and down more than a whore's draws for the last few weeks now. LOL!

Getting a bit worried since the "Bobway" server vanished a while ago too and hasn't resurfaced recently (don't know if they're connected in any way). Wouldn't like to think it's gone as it's my favourite server....not to mention I've got a CONSIDERABLE amount of time invested in my character....

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good alternative server to use? I've been using the "jolt.co.uk" server as a backup, but it's always full until well after midnight and "Sir Warwick's" server I find too difficult to get started on. :-(

TIA.

You can try mine. I don't intend of bringing it down unless I loose my job (unlikely), the 'puter dies (new the spring of 2003 but I do overclock it), my ISP hates my bandwidth (in 3 years I haven't heard anything from them), I see a better game than FL (do you know how much I like the Wing Commander series and Privateer? FL2 out yet?), my family makes me (possible, but a low probability) or PEOPLE STOP PLAYING ON THE SERVER!

We currently emulate Elite but I do like Azag's server side mods on Proxima! Oh, we are aggressive against cheaters and have server police, the Argonian Ryders. See server news for rules.

Let me say amen to that; I play on Elite, Proxima, and Boston. All excellent.

However, Pixbo is a non-PvP server (I know cuz my wife plays there) and it was VERY popular!

She also plays on:

-=ZZ=-Lothlorien ( PvP on weekends )
Highwayman Server (non-PvP)
Fixitman's Universe (No PvP in Liberty)

Boston with it's no-PvP in Liberty would be a good choice,
but Proxima may be a little too ...intense... for her.

Hi Earendil, thanks for the suggestion.

I did give your server a go, however I'm not that good yet that I can cope with NPCs using shield batteries and nonobots when I'm starting a new character....

I *DO* think that it's a good idea, it adds a lot to the game, but would it be possible to set things up so that not all groups use batteries/nanobots (eg Liberty Rogues wouldn't use them, everyone else would) or that NPCs don't use them within the New York system for example?

Probably a question for a different forum.

Hi Frobozz, thanks for the suggestions. I've had a look at most of the servers you suggested. However, I believe "Elite" has/is shutting down soon (?) and I think the others I tried had NPC shield batteries/nanobots use enabled.

As I said in my previous post, although I think it's a great idea, personally I find it makes it far too difficult to get a new character off the ground.

I've actually now settled on the server at "jolt.co.uk" as it's based here in the UK (and I'd already started a character on there which I was playing on the frequent occasions when Pixbo's was down)....just have to put up with not being able to get on until the early hours....

Thanks again.

Ensor, actually the only server side mod you could have encountered as a new character would be the NPC regen shields. The rates are geared toward letting you start easy and getting harder in higher levels. This was after player feedback which was very welcome and very much tested. I don't know where you thought I put in NPC's using nanos and batts - they don't. For a complete, detailed list of server side mods (only two) see this thread link. I'm actually finding the mods add to server loading and thus lag so I am waiting for my new hardware before I try anything else out.

EDIT: link to server side mod details added.

My apologies, I'd tried out a number of servers that night, a couple of which most definitely allowed NPCs to use shield batteries and nanobots. Obviously I'd confused yours with one of those.

Sorry.
