24/7 Proxima Dedicated
I'm opening a new server called 24/7 Proxima Dedicated. The server is running on an Athlon XP 1.9GHz proccessor with 512MB of PC2100 memory, and a SCSI drive. It's running on a 5MB down/1MB up connection and will be receiving nearly around the clock administrative attention for dealing with such issues as server crashes or cheating (did I say NO mods were allowed?), as the load will be split between two admins, and possibly more in the future. The feedback I've gotten so far has been great, ping has been low and there have been no major issues to date, but we are in need of more players.
Also, some of you who are interested in more of a challenge than Freelancer usually provides may be especially interested in this server, as several server-side mods have been applied. Certain weapons such as Paralyzer missiles are now available as loot, missions are much harder in the Omicrons and pay more, the AI has been tweaked, AI shields regenerate, and it's generally just a far more rewarding experience doing missions. You may even have to team up with other players to be able to complete some of the higher level ones, though the lower-paying ones are still quite doable solo.
PvP is allowed and encouraged, there will be no "mass bannings" for clan-related PvP incidents. Proxima will be adopting Elite's "30 minute max" dock camping rule - anyone who is caught camping for longer than thirty minutes will be promptly removed from the server. We do want to keep the environment fair for everyone, regardless of their player vs. player skills. However, if we find one clan has a great many members that have been caught cheating, there is a good chance that the entire clan may be banned. Keep your members in line, clan leaders.
All complaints, suggestions, and/or comments should be mailed to [email protected]. If either Admin1 or Admin2 is on, you may notify them of any problems as well.
Due to the number of requests for ship navigational light changes, we've decided to allow this. However you cannot make your ship a blinding sun, or anything of those sorts. As a temporary solution, not everyone will be able to have lights, as this requires rebooting the server with the changes, have the player buy their ship, and reboot the server again. We’re hoping a release of IONCROSS will support editing of the player's ship, making this task a breeze.
We know some of you are tired of the default lights and want something to uniquely identify yourself, and that's great, it adds some diversity to the game.
By the way, due to the fact that we are using a Hotmail account for our e-mail, we are going to have to ask that if screenshots are mailed to show cheating or abuse of the server rules, that you keep the size down somewhat. Do not mail .bmp files, -please- make it a .jpg at the very least. This is a temporary measure, and we expect to have an e-mail address without a size limit soon.
