Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Introductions before assistance :-)

Hi there, im am presently the DCL of a freelancer community from the UK. Our servers are supplied by a UK GSP called wireplay. Details can be seen here :http://forums.wireplay.co.uk/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=293439

We have a small community which is growing, and we are fairly happy with its progress as our Freelancer section has only been going for a short while.

The reason im posting is 1 to say hi and 2 to ask for some help.

We have been having problems using server tools with our system. Let me explain..
We have tried both server operator and FLAdmin and on both the problem is the same.
After setting setting up FLadmin up we start it, with the default 60 seconds on server check, after finding it boots without a problem and seems to run ok. The problem is it seems 60 seconds later it will spawn another server up :? if left unchecked as i did once we end up with 30+ servers running off the same box. This seems to be the case with both programs, do you have any ideas?.
As for server setup i dont think i am allowed to disclose details but what i can say is that they are dual proccessor platforms. Not ideal but they run pretty well.
Any help advice is very welcome as we are pretty much stumped lol.

Also i noticed in some threads an idea about setting up a communications link between server operators, is this a reality now, how / can we become part of this?
Look forward to hearing from you as we are still new to this, and you are in the old term of words (gamepros) to us at the minute.

Well I'm not going to pretend I have all the answers but I'll give your problem a try.

I, too, run FLAdmin. Good program but I don't have a reason to use the remote control as my site hasn't become too busy. As for starting up multiple flserver programs, it would seem for some reason FLAdmin doesn't pick up the fact flserver is running. I have never used the server operator so I won't relate to that program but the fact that this issue happens with more than one program points squarely to an OS issue. I beleive FLAdmin looks for an OS provided list of running programs. The reasons for not picking up the running flserver could be many. One I am thinking about is security and permissions. Another is ownership. What OS are you running? I had to go to WinXPPro because Win2k didn't work with flserver by not connecting through the network (I had installed SP3 though, which people say is the problem). Are you starting FLAdmin as a service? Is everything running in an admin account? Just some thoughts.

I believe the OS is win2k pro with service pack 4 , which if im correct should be fully liscened etc.
What you suggested sounds very feasable but is above my level of ability, so i will relay the info and post any return, thank you for a very speedy reply too .

Do you know any info we could research on this as im in serious doubt as to whether we could get the OS changed if that is the cause.

Thx in advance

I searched for weeks before I found out about the issue with Win2k SP3 (I think) and flserver.exe. I still remember the three whole days I tried to make it work! Made the three hours afterwards I took to set up WinXPPro look like no time at all. I just don't like the CPU sucking software overhead and while there are good sites out there like Black Viper's to whittle down the cr*p Micro$oft puts in their OS, I haven't the strength to do it. Not quite Russian roulette but still...

If you are using Win2k it is even more picky about permissions and sercurity - not surprising as they are postioning it as a business OS. Still I would like to know the setup you have and if you get Win2k to work, please let me (us?) know. I would like to go back to Win2k just because I know (enough now) about WinXPPro.

For some unknown peculiar reason it seems to be working now :? we havent changed a thing.

Our spec is win 2k sp4
1 gig ram
dual 800 proccessors

Can support players pretty well but we are always pestering for upgrades lol.

Ive seen in the forums references to a program called account browser, is this available yet?
Or what do you suggest we use on the server, so we can keep up with what is happening?

FL account browser is written by akataka and can be found at www.flserver.com/downloads. That is if he has posted the latest version yet. This file calls home to decode the files but that's it. He has another tool called FL connection monitor. It uses the accounts.xml file generated by the account browser to identify people who are listed by IP (places a character name to the saved game file name). Akataka did beta testing for FL and continues to work with the Digital Anvil team I beleive.

I have heard of one other program that can observe the accounts in real time but I misremember the name. There is also FLStat which is a tool for extracting statistics of each character. Many are posting the generated lists to show highest kill totals, money totals, etc. Cryo the author is also working on linking different websites with these stats to get a super stat list. Myself? I would like more real time tools that can edit as well.

My server follows TLR rules (but it's not affiliated yet, do you see Stinger?). So I run LancerGuard which is installed on the server side, it modify's equipment files and prevents some pretty abused cheats (otherwise known as mods on a modded server). When it detects a cheat it boots the player like the flserver patch does. Unfortunently It doesn't block cloak and speed hacks. But every little bit helps for an unmodded server.

What upgrades do you mean?
