Alternative Solution To "No PKing In Liberty"
how about rules more like "dont attack anyone more than 5 lvls lower than you". this rule makes more sense than "no pking in liberty".
for example:
taking luxury goods to planet new tokyo and bringing niobium back to manhatten is a very good trade run for a brand new player - one run gives him enough credits for a rhino and more change than he started the game with. but if there is i pk near new tokyo, the guy's character is ruined and he looses all the time it took to get there - he cant defend himself and all his cash is in his cargo bay.
but if the rule is "no pking a person 5 or more lvls lower than you" then the newb has a good sporting chance to outrun the pker, possibly with some shield damage, but at least he isnt facing flashpoints or even diamondbacks .
another example:
a pker targets a humpback and "requests" a fourth of the other player's cargo. now this IS an interesting choice - the trader may be willing to give up only a fourth of his cargo so that he can keep the other 3/4 intact and still salvage some profit from the run; or he might try to outrun the pker. both of these options are fair play for the pker AND the trader. after all, the trader aught to be prepared for a robbery, but then a pker better be ready for a litteral "run for his money" too. anyways, if the host doesnt want pkers to rob trade convoys at all, why does he have the pk option on at all? dueling? there are tons of other servers for that.
but if the trader notices that california is only a trade lane and a jump gate away, he might make a run for it and then call "ha-ha-ha you cant touch me now, i call sanctuary because theres no pking in liberty!"
another option would be "No PKing players under lvl 6". this is less protective, but still shields the absolute newb from harrasment, AND it fixes the dilemma that a lvl 48 character might otherwise face: "who can i take out, everyone is more than 5 lvls below me".
i am sure most newbs would be fine with either of these rules, they would also make a lot of higher-level ppl happy too. thx for reading this, hosts!
