Patch 1.1 & invalid cheat kicks

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Patch 1.1 & invalid cheat kicks

Have one a player had a cheat kick on a server I admin on, not seen him post here yet so heres what happened.

He was on a mission to collect some papers and return to base, while returning to base the server lagged badly enough he lost conenction{culprit speed mod user}so failed the mission. Now he still had the papers in his cargo bay on spawning when he rejoined and when at a base trying to sell them got a cheat kick, so had to jettison them before he could continue.

So bare in mind when you see some ppl getting kicked, it might just be harmless.

The dead giveaway though is when you see the same person kicked a couple of times over 20 minutes or so.

If it only happens once, i ignore it. If it keeps happening, i hunt them down, kill them, and then dock-spawn them until they go away.

"I'm not cheating, I'm modding" is their normal excuse. Same diff to me. Besides, its the cheaters that are mainly responsible for the lag on the servers (with M$ operating systems running a close second)

Most cheats caught by the patch Cant launch anyway, so must be something else your seeing.

I concur with Pinger.

I have experimented with this myself....Using some of my clan members as guinea pigs.

Mounting/Unmounting equipment during lag CAN get you kicked for cheating. Because it somehow detects 2 pieces of equipment on the same location.

WHen you get solid red on lag....STOP what you are doing. Wait for it to dissapate.

Cheaters/modders are not the only cause for the lag.

I have personally tested dialup....Someone connected to a broadband server using 56k dialup CAN slow the server down. I have also watched when a certain player logged on my system...lag shot thru the roof. Server load was nearing 10,000 msecs. Once that person logged off.....server load dropped to under 75 msecs.

If you have Dialup...I am sorry...but you can hurt broadband servers.....

True, they arent the only cause of lag.

One of the others i've noticed if you get dock-campers blowing away all the npc transports that come with range (most often outside manhatten to give newbies a boost). Hundreds upon thousands of cargo units floating about, all of which have to be "drawn and placed" by the server. The more cargo units and players, the more work for the server.

Hmm....will tinker to see if i can work in a degration factor like Alien Orgs for free floating cargo. If i figure it out, will post it in the mod section.

I've had quite a few entries in cheaters/log relating to players I'm confident aren't cheating so it's definately not 100% reliable.

As above, if it happens once I tend to ignore it. If it happens a number of times to the same player over a short period I investigate.
