For the record - Elite server

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

For the record - Elite server

We've been at this for over 3 months now on Elite server and I figured it time to clear the air about what may be some misconceptions/misinterpretations. Consider this a state of the server address if you will. This isn't designed to do anything but clear the air. Flames will either be ignored or simply deleted.

Since DA released the patch to stabilize the servers (among other things) there has been an enormous amount of pilots being auto-booted for "possible cheating detected." Reasons include the use of ANY mods, ANY cheats, and MOST hackers. Depending on the severity of these auto-boots, players may have been banned permanently. The rules of this server are right on the server news. People continue to try to break the rules and that's fine, but please, do not be surprised when you're banned because you chose to ignore the rules.

After this long, we've gotten pretty good at identifying the pilots that try to fly under the radar in the hope we don't catch them doing something wrong. PK'ing is still off limits in Liberty space and if you're busted doing it, you're gone. We do reserve the right to engage in a conversation with you if you PK in Liberty space (also clearly noted on the server news as off limits) and have in the past unbanned a few kind souls that have pleaded their case very well and not broken the server rules since. We do have many many many "spys" on the server watching for rule breakers. These spys have the utmost integrity and do have only one thing in mind, to keep the server clean and friendly.

Since the release of the cloaking mod, we've been banning people daily, that's a fact (also clearly noted as against the rules on the server news). We use all resources to keep them off the server and so far have been fairly successful. We have several server tools that aren't exactly public domain at our disposal. I can honestly think of only one time in over three months where someone was banned mistakenly. That was a simple typo mistake and it was quickly rectified. All other bannings have been for a darn good reason and after research, not just by word of mouth all the time. It doesn't make any sense to ban everyone on a quality server like this and we know that.

We have some ideas up our sleeves for our community to make things a bit more exciting. Stay tuned, but please, don't come on Elite with a MOD or HACK, or CHEAT of any kind and no PK'ing in Liberty. Keep these simple rule in mind and you'll always be a welcomed family member of Elite.

I sent an email to the admin at [email protected] trying to explain what happened since I got banned. I asked another player for some money and he gave me 10000 and a level 9 gun to sell. Well it wasn't the money that got be kicked and banned but the gun he gave me. It took me from rank 3 to 15 in a second. I left to go eat dinner and when i got back on everyone said that the console said "cheater detected". I can guarantee that I wasn't cheating. I would like to be unbanned and prove myself once again but I still haven't gotten a response from admin. If you could help Stinger I would appreciate it.

I have the same problems with a lot of the emails i send to you guys about possible cheaters. Im sure you guys get tons of emials, and cant reply to every one, but cant you just type a single "Thanks, well check it out." so I know you got my email?

Falcon,

Ya, I've sent emails too. We must be patient seeing all the problems on the server right now.
I'm sure they got their hands full, but you've got a point. Players are the best
anti-cheat resource an admin has, and if they think their emails are going into a black hole...

No email black hole, we review them all without exception. Sometimes we need some additional info and depending on the validiity of the original email address and/or not full causing it to bounce. I've had a few times where a legitimate looking screenshot and/or email text is read, but some clarification is warrented and blammo, bounceback (email undeliverable). In that case we have no choice but to let sleeping dogs lie until we have definative proof.

So if you send us something concerning something you've seen on the Elite server, give us a day or two (maybe longer if it's on a weekend) to react. If it seems nothing changed and you feel it is important, then by all means send a followup. But we simply can not reply to everyone for two reasons. One, the volume as mentioned above, and two, we do not engage in debates on whether someone should be banned or not. It's our call and we do take the responsibility that comes with the power to ban seriously. If we banned everyone, we'd lose our customer base and there'd be no need for the server at all. Trust us, we're not new at this, we've got the tools in place to verify and research much more than any other server (that I'm aware of ) and we appreciate everyone's patience and support.

We've been very very busy lately ensuring the server is clean.
