Elite is always full

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Elite is always full

Server Elite is the server i'll be gaming in for FL because I've a clan there and friends in real life, but whenever I check servers, Elite is always full.

IMO there should be more players able to go on at a time, say 60 or something like that, anything to get me playing. ='/

Yea, but more player may lead to lag. It's wrose than server being full most of the time.

They are testing a new hardware, but with that it can allow more players without causing lags.

Just checked, 26/30. Only have to stick with it.

Post Mon Jun 09, 2003 10:13 pm

Yeah! But when it's full, the ping is like 90!!! That ain't bad at all. =P
It wouldn't hurt to put a few more slots...

They tried to raise the player count a few weeks ago. Raised it to 45 and the lag was awful for everyone. It was reverted to 30 the next day.

STOP WHINING ABOUT THIS TOPIC! It could be worse. The player limit could be 25 like it was when it was passworded or it could be lower than that. The admins will raise the player count when they are good and ready, but not before then. Until then, there isnt a whole lot you can do to change their minds.

i think there should be like a timelimit or something... like 2hrs, then a player must disconnect and reconnect.... 2 hrs is more then enought to from Omicron Theta to say Tau 37

Post Tue Jun 10, 2003 6:52 am

Yeah, especially when there are people who just get on and then go afk right away.

Post Tue Jun 10, 2003 8:17 am

the ping does not really matter it only a test of the connection speed what cause most lag is the cpu not being fast enough on the other hand i might be wrong and the ping is bogus

Post Tue Jun 10, 2003 5:25 pm

You think ping doesn't matter? Really? Try flying on a server that pings at 500 and let us know how that works for you.
A friend of mine is running a server on a 750mhz computer, slow by any standard. His modem is a Cisco 905, god's own cable modem. He is a couple miles away and the ping is between 10 and 50 depending on how busy the node is. We play with no lag at all. Lag and ping go hand in hand.

High ping = big lag

I'm glad someone cleared that up. Last night I was playing on a server, my ping was 48. However, when I entered the game and started playing, I would see other ships with that 'warping' effect where they freeze, then shoot across the screen ( No, wasn't an afterburner ). Everything kept getting very ****y. Then I noticed at the top of my screen, a little icon of 2 computers would show up in yellow, then show up in red, and then yellow again. Every few minutes.

I asked another player if the game was lagging for him, he said "big time". So I exited thinking something was messed up. Server ping was now 50. So I went back in. Same thing.

How come it would have a low ping, but be so laggy? My system is a dell 8250, 2.8 ghz , 512 megs, cable modem, so it didn't seem to my computer that was slowing down.... any ideas?

Post Tue Jun 10, 2003 10:24 pm

probably someone with 56K connected to the server....

and i had that 'wrappin' thingy on Argonyan server....

and ping.... as long as ping is not higher than 200, it is K.... some CS ppl can say it is big... well, i'm a Delta Force guy..... and i say this ping is low

Post Tue Jun 10, 2003 10:26 pm

but the thing is... so many people log on and go afk, just to have a spot on the server for when they play 2morrow, that increasing the player amount should'nt increase the ping too much. It just should increase the amount of people that go afk.

Post Wed Jun 11, 2003 12:41 am

So if they increase the number the server will hold, and those slots are filled with people afk, this will help how?
Or was that your point?

Or akataka (or whatever!) can do what he did a few times and periodically reboot to get rid of the "sleepers".
