Some Patch observations

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Some Patch observations

Installed it on a local server and tried a couple of common cheats (will stick it on my public one later)

Test 1:
Edit client memory to give me loads of money - That worked - so looks like admins will still have to patrol the Manhatten docking ring and blast/ban every n00b with 76M credits

Test 2:
Buy a titan at Manhatten
On launch to space - connection lost - logged as cheater
6/6/2003 18:38:39 Possible cheating detected (Ship or Equipment not sold on base) by Test(xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx)

Test 3:
Buy a rhino and fit it out with a load of illegal nomad weapons
result as above - connection lost and logged.

After being caught - seems you account is restored to a previous legit state (good).

Experience so far is that 90% of cheaters I have caught on my server were in category 1, so they can still cheat

The remaining 10% or so have done 1 + 2/3 (I assume), and tend to immediately start killing everyone and so are the most annoying - at least we seem to be rid of them

I also noticed that ptough.ini (it contains level amounts) doesnt appear to have been updated, so I assume that levels are now hard coded which may affect RPG mods that have custom level amounts.

In fact the patch doesnt appear to contain any .ini file updates.

BTW - anyone have an email address for DA to email them details of test 1?

[just realised - I probably stuck this in the wrong forum - if a moderator can move it to multiplayer - please do...

played some of the patch on browclops.. they change any of the flight physics? seems different.. ah well saw it own a fag in new york already- no lag either

Post Sat Jun 07, 2003 2:00 am

Nah, the physics are the same. You're just hyper sensitive right now because you know the patch is there. There are no game play changes.

yeah it's good to go man.. thanks da- whoever Yoda is on browclops.. was fun learned some stuff =

ehm, I pause at the "instant cash" portion of our program.

I've been playing mostly on Elite, and I've seen more than one person try to use "instant cash" cheats. They didn't get banned instantly, but it didn't take long, either. We're talking a minute or less here...

Perhaps something was modified since I last saw that trick tried, but if the current patch matches (or improves upon) what was on Elite a good week+ ago, it'll handle the sudden wealth gain that some noobs get....

As a followup for patch experience with server side mods:

I run a minor server side mod on my server that affect the following:
- npc ships have there shields replaced with player shields
- loot drops changed
- missile/mine/torpedoes all changed

No problems with the new patch. Certainly the server has been completly stable since the patch - no crashes, lots of modded players detected and removed etc - nice one DA!

On question about the patch - what are admin experiences with CPU usage when busy? More? Less? Same?

Running only 13 players on a dual athlon 2000 mp seems to max out and overload a 1.66Ghz cpu (I know FL can only use one cpu...) I would have expected to be able to get many more players on such a system.

Post Sun Jun 08, 2003 2:02 pm

@ 2 days after applying the patch; I've posted some of this elsewhere so I'll summarize and be brief:
- Dual CPU usage is down on both (compaq dl380 g2 2x1.4) and we've upped to 30 players (from 23), which was not possible before.
- Majority of common mods autokicked (nomad battleship, Uber shields, etc) some not (600/1200/3000 cruise speed, beam weapons) It only appears to kick you *once you have commited the crime* of acquiring the modded object. Simply modding with FLMM does not activate the autokick sequence upon entering the server.
- Stability has never been an issue in sixty (60) public days so I can't comment on lack of crashing.
- ID logging is great and the console log is easy to search. As perhaps one of the few remaining totally unmodded servers, I am very pleased with this patch.

well add back onto the list invulnerable shields.. just got outta calgary and ran into a titan who would'nt pay the toll- guys name was -HolyKOA-.. I hit em with everything and his shields did'nt move.. scanned his hull real fast and he was usin justice mk1s and level 8 natterturns then started warpin around.. could'nt kill me with that rig though- guess the gun cheats are weak

Post Mon Jun 09, 2003 4:05 am

Anybody know a way to uninstall the patch? I've got my own server that only I play on that I mess around with. It's modded, and ever since I've installed the patch whenever I try to play on it it crashes. Any help?

Post Mon Jun 09, 2003 7:17 pm

It appears that the patch kicks you on launch....That appears to be when it checks.

I so far have found 4 different types of kicks, and what I did to get them

Ship or Equipment not sold on base ==> Simple Mod..Everything sold at Manhattan.

Ship Related ==>RYST's +4 trainer

Ship capacity exceeded ==> Modding cargo capacity

Equipment exceeds ship specs ==> Class 10 weaps on a starflier

This makes me happy, because I want to have an UNMODDED server.

I know this irritates you modders out there....That I understand...But stay off my server with your mods.

@AllGunsBlazing just use the uninstaller But choose to reinstall keeping your current setup/online ID etc.

But as standard do a backup of your own Online ID and single/multi player saves in My docs

I've manged to find a solution to the problems. I've tore apare the 1.1 files and added them to my new mod. So I've killed two birds with 1 stone. Made the new patch compatible and also have the 1.1 cheater protection. It's not easy though..

Normally I would write a tutorial on this, but I think microsoft would be a little peeved at the fact that people are changing their patch to suit their needs. Oh well, they gave us a buggy program, so we will fix it.
