FLServer startup question

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

FLServer startup question

Hello all! :-) Question about the FLServer.exe

Are there any line-command options I can pass it, to skip over the "Server Configuration" screen? I mean, I already configured it, so why would I want to be prompted to configure it everytime I start FLServer?? LOL

The reason behind this query, is because one can use Microsoft's SRVANY utility to start pretty much any application as a system service (on NT and 2000, and I'm assuming XP, but never tried it). I've even setup services, using SRVANY, that are simply .BAT or .CMD scripts.. :-) Anyways, if I can pass specific line command options to the flserver.exe, that allow me to bypass this annoying "Server Configuration" screen, I can set it up to run as a system service on my gaming server.

The other two game-servers that run on this box give me the ability to call the server executable with line command options, so's they know what to do without prompting me for information. In this fashion I don't have to worry about logging onto the machine, and having to manually start anything.

Thanks in advance! :-)

I highly recommend running the FLAdmin program. This will skip over the config screen for you and restart your server automatically if it crashes.

It is a blessing in disguise

Thanks, but found the answer to my own question already.

I'm honestly not interested in using a third-party piece of software to monitor the Flserver.exe, as that means I still have to execute that third-party piece of software.

If you start flserver.exe as folllows:

flserver.exe /c

That will launch the server, bypassing the Configure screen, starting things right up for you.

So now, using the SRVANY utility I'll be able to install it as a system service. Windows 2000 monitors it's services on it's own, and can be configured to restart the service in question if it crashes an unlimited amount of times, so that part is taken care of as well. :-)

There's already a thread on this forum I started a while ago which discusses getting FLSERVER.EXE to run as a service under Windows 2000.

I had problems with it running under SRVANY and gave up with it but another admin is running it succesfully using FireDaemon. However I'd not tried it yet because without the FLServer GUI or FLAdmin there is no way to administer the server app.

While I understand your concern about running FLAdmin, in all honesty it'd be difficult to find an app which is any WORSE than FLServer!! I find FLAdmin invaluable.
