Yup, crashed a couple times after I had harvested a whole whack of Rogues, Junkers, and Outcasts. All that work down the drain.

Hey Gene, are you planning to install any mods to your server in the future?

I'de really love it if we could all fly around in tie fighters

Post Tue Apr 22, 2003 1:04 am

ugh, i cant even finish a run without it going down atleast twice, lol

Post Tue Apr 22, 2003 6:01 am

server has been going down a lot. In the past hour (22:00 PST 4/21/03) it has gone down twice.

edit: make that three times. And no apparent lag or anything we usually see when it goes down, it just goes off

Server will have to do how is for now. I will do my best to keep cheaters down, but I am going to be extrodonarily busy at work this week.

Looking over the logs there has been a lot of people on using cheated weapons today. There are certain patterns in network traffic that scream "I just fired all the guns on a ship with 10 Nomad Weapons" This is what usually takes down ther server. If someone fires these guns for more than 15 - 30 seconds, it can take upwards of 5 minutes for the server to restabilize itself. It has to catch up with all the network traffic it was unable to send to everyone during that nice hit.

Things to think about, Gene.

1) You've stated recenly that you're lv5 on MP, and really don't have time to play the game. This seems to make you unqualified for judging how fast honest players can level up. Using only trading, I can be level 20+ in only 3-4 hours. Shortly after that, I can earn about 1 mil. per hour. BTW, that is ONLY trading, no missions that involve kills at all. I've seen player chat indicating players know how to HONESTLY make lv. 38 in about 2 hours. Obviously, they didn't give details, but it was indicated that trading was they way to do so.
2) You're banning people for either trivial reasons (names that offend YOU, but not the online public at large), or your perception of cheating (yet seemingly you've not played the game enough to know how potent honest trading IS in advancing players).
3) The massive problem you have with cheaters currently is due to your choice of ban targets. I know of NO other server I play on that has SUCH a problem with cheaters. Sure, most servers have SOME problem, and it's based on cheaters whos sense of fun is having an invulnerable ship and decent to rediculous weapons for the area they're in. On YOUR server, you're getting the hardest of the cheats. Invulnerable, able to kill @ 2k range, staying for extended periods, not caring if they're banned or not.
This is a beast you created, and it will not end while you keep your current values. There is one way to end it, but it's tantamount to making it a private server, and I don't think that's your aim.
All I can say is, misery will follow you closely while you follow your current course. And once again, I urge you to think about your choice of actions.

I'm not against you, but ... man, look at what's happening due to your choices, ok? Ponder it, even.

And in case you're wondering, no, I'm NOT one of the massive cheaters. I'm still waiting for the "unban", so I can start again w/out sacraficing the many many hours I have invested in other servers. I play (mostly) on dialup, and I play the server with the lowest ping on any given day. That means I play on a couple servers at work (t1), and many servers at home (dialup *puke*). I'd be more than happy to re-start, though I'd hope for a cash handoff from an honest player, as my cash was earned honestly. If it doesn't happen? Well, no biggie, it's only a few hours of play. Likely? no. But I won't give up my hours of play. I still dream of an exception. I'll check every few days to see if it's happened, at least for the next couple months or so. If you DO choose to unban me, please message to [email protected]. : )

chalk up 2 more unjustified bannings. My bud and i logged on, (brand new accounts), we were sitting in space at Manhatten, trying to decide where to go.
when someone (in a Hawk, maybe a titan)(his name was a starwars characters name) kills us both.

Well, needless to say, that pissed us off, so we attacked him (keep in mind we were in the default noob ships) he killed us both about 6 more times, we managed to get him to burn up all his sheild batteries and about 5 nano bots, we almost had him dead (yes, this took some time, maybe 30 minutes, he was trying to evade and fight) then he docked on planet. Bang, disconnected from server, when we tried to relog... account banned.

with the right ship it will only take 15 minutes to make a solid 600,000

Hellif, if you come back to Seattle, look me up, Merchant of Venice. All my was obtained the hard way, I earned it

FYI, I did talk to Gene about how to level up. I've shared some of my routes with him. If I'm very lucky, no lag, not much trade interruptions, brand new server, so on so forth, it is possible for me to hit level 38 in 2 hours or less. That's on a standard server, with no mods or anything.

As for the other person that was banned. I know it's tempting when someone pk you. It has happened to me before on elite. However, because rule said no PK, don't fight back..because you can be reported Just report him and wait for admin action.

I know it's tempting but don't do it. That rule also saved me before. A player pirate had to leave me alone, after I pointed out no PK in liberty. I was hiding inside Los Angeles, shivering from fear My little freighter is no match to an eagle at all.

One thing about Seattle, hiring escorts probably makes sense. My last big convoy on that server ended up in about 90% death to the freighters (over 10 freighters plus 4 escorts), due to player piracy mostly. We've lost a couple freighter to computer pirates (when we went through Colorado and Galileo system) but one player killed 5 or 6 of us in no time, using his Eagle. Elite had piracy but I don't think it was that bad..

Ok wanted to report the player 7MD for pk on liberty and using the invinvible shield cheat, i warned him about it and he replied with a "u'r gay get a life".

This is my 1ºst report here i dont know if this is the ideal way to do it, but here it is

Thanks in advance

its impossible to get out of manhatten atm, 7md is pking everyone on site with a one shot kill that has limitless range it seems. someone mentioned he grabbed a few screenshots of the cheater mentioning comments, that alone would ban him. plus everyone at ny will back any accusation about this guy on site.

Great... with this response time i think this server will become a cheaters haven like calgary in no time, where the hell is the admin?

Post Tue Apr 22, 2003 11:22 pm

Post Tue Apr 22, 2003 11:25 pm

I have a life too man, its 23:30 here, end of the day, i was expecting to have some fun and relax, and instead im annoyed with this troll

There should be a law banning idiots like this from using computers.

7MD needs to be IP banned with Dynamic IP's in mind.
