Running Server on LAN without Internet

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Running Server on LAN without Internet

Hello,

When I try to run a Freelancer server, it INSISTS on trying to connect to the Internet even for a local LAN game.

Console excerpt:

Server running, ready for log in.
Connecting to list server...
Established connection to list server...
Failed to connect to list server.

This is a local game on a LAN without Internet, and I don't want the game to broadcast its information to the list server. This occurs if I try to connect without making the game "Internet Accessible". Obviously it is too much to ask to connect the entire LAN to the Internet because I don't have that authority over that network.

I've tried a little bit of modification of the [Server parameters in freelancer.ini, but it doesn't seem to have any effect on FLServer.

Are there tools to either:

1) Force the FLServer NOT to look for a List server
2) Set up your OWN list server so the FLServer can find it on the LAN

Thanks!

I have it running LAN only. Still get the "unable to connect message", but it makes no difference for LAN as far as i can tell.

See my post labelled "Minimum Spec for Server?" for more info

PS didnt seem to work if i used a static ip, but as soon as i went to dynamic it worked.

Just my $0.02, but it could just be the cardamine talking.

Well over the weekend I tried starting up the server while connected to the internet, it seemed to work fine that way, though to work as a lan I might need to connect a 2nd computer... which might be why I could not run a server on my machine and connect to it... Microsoft software might have told the server there is no network... *shrugs* just my guess as to why it tries to connect to a list server...

I had the same problem in the beginning.

As soon as i upgraded to Server path 1.1 (available at the Microsoft Freelancer Homepage) it was solved

It was a socalled 'feature' that MS always saw one's server B-)

The only difference i saw was when you applied the patch, it just stopped the "attempting to connect" message from coming up. Activity lights on my hub were still going wild though.

Just my $0.02, but it could just be the cardamine talking.

The server connects to publish on the global server...whether or not you are going to open it up on the global server.
