Missing sounds after FP7 Cutsceen

Hello Everyone. After about 3 years of other games, I've decided to put some time into Freelancer again. (Played religiously for about 6 months back in 2004)

Anyway, upon installation, I'm finding that after the opening cutscreen, the destruction of FP7, I fail to get any sound from the remaining cutsceens and I when I finally get to the game play, I get no sound effects. The only thing I get is the background noise (environment sounds). Strange enough, during the cutsceen of the destruction of Freeport 7, I get all the sounds (voices, ship sounds, blaster sounds, explosions, even the little probe that flies past my screen before the cutsceen ends.) But after that, most sounds are missing.

It's been awhile so I'm not 100% sure what exact sounds are missing, but I'd expect to get sound effects while shooting, mousing over icons, and the voices from all the NPCs that I talk to in and out of my ship. However, I don't get any of those.

I've read the sticky on the forum about correcting sound issues. I have no codec packs installed. I installed the latest Fraunhoffer MP3 Codec, I've disabled 3D sounds and I've installed the "Freelancer QuickFix Patch". Nothing seems to work and I was hoping someone else has experienced my sound issue and has corrected it.

My system is as follows:
Freelancer 1.1 (also tried the QuickFix Patch)
Windows Vista Ultimate
DirectX 10
Creative Labs X-Fi Gamer
Sterio Speakers / Headphones

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Did you take a look at the game "Options" under "Audio" ?

The problem also could be VISTA. It tends to play havac with some games. My case, it would crash freelancer.

Yes, I've check, and all sound volumes are set to maximum and 3D sounds are disabled.

All I can say is NUTS. Vista is probably the issue and has been since those
pea-brained developers released it.

Just for Kicks, I think I may run a fresh install of Windows XP pro in a dual boot option to see if it's possible to get Freelancer working correctly. If so.. then eh, it's only hard drive space. If I do and get different results. I'll keep the fourms posted.

Thanks for the help
