Multiplayer crash

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Multiplayer crash

I can log onto a server just fine, and it loads up fine, but after a minute or two of play, it crashes and I get the Blue Screen of Death. Single player works fine, and I've tried disabling 3D sound, reinstalling, and joining different servers, but none of this helps.

I've browsed through the topics here, and I don't see anyone else with this problem. Can anyone help? (First post)

I am having the same problem, as is my friend. Both of us got firewall messages so we turned the firewall off, and the same thing happens. I got some errors in FLspew about ship hulls, I think? We are running Discovery 4.83.

Are you running mods, and what's your OS?

I had an issue like this once, in another game.

Soundcard drivers believe it or not.
Do you get a "file error report to microsoft" when you restart windows? That's how I found out about my problem/fix...

Sorry I didn't get back, I had to go out.

No, I'm not running any mods, and I'm using XP (service pack 2). Is there any other way to download the drivers than the error reports, because whenever I send one in, it's "corrupted". This probably isn't the place to ask on how to un-corrupt my error reports, but is there any other way I can get the sound drivers?

My friend's computer froze and had to be restarted, he did not receive an error message. My computer froze but then recovered, I could and did send an error report. We are both running Windows XP. He has MacAfee security centre in installed, I have Avast! antivirus protection.

Damn. Now the problem spreads to Singleplayer. I'm playing on an almost new installation, without QuickFix cause it causes problems and with No-CD on. I deactivated Discovery and was using the super save available here. I do have some left over debris files on this hard drive, from when I uninstalled Freelancer (from a different drive, oddly enough) with a mod still active (whoops) but I moved them out of the way.

You could try deleting your old savegames from the My Games/Freelancer/Singleplayer folder.

If that doesn't work, delete your Freelancer folder in Program Files/Microsoft Games and reinstall FL. You won't lose any of your MP characters as long as you do not choose the "uninstall" option when you pop in the CD.

Edit: Also, you may want to disable your antivirus software and make sure that FL is allowed to access the Internet. Though I haven't heard of people having problems with Avast (it's usually Norton, ZoneAlarm or McAfee causing issues in my experience).

The only other thing you can do is post the last 10 lines of your FLSpew file so we can see what the errors are.
