GeForce4 TI 4200 AGP8X - FL not starting

Hi! I've got a problem with my video adapter: the game crashes to desktop just after displaying the splash screen (the one with "FREELANCER" written across the screen) or the intro movie (the first time I tried after installing the game at least). I've tried to update the game both with the MS patch (v1.1) and the QuickFix from Louva-Deus (1.0c) but there were no changes at all! Then I updated the drivers to the last WHQL Certified version form NVidia (93.71) and the DirectX (9.0c) all to no avail
Searching this forum I've found a quite old topic (2004) about this problem with the same video adapter: it said to use a quite old version of the drivers (49.something) and to set the resolution to 800x600....what I'd like to know is: is there any other solution to this problem?? I'd rather not downgrade the driver so much 'cause I fear newer game can cease to function and 800x600 is quite a low res for today PCs! I noticed that the patch from Louva adds my board to the list of supported video adapters so I hope this means that all is not lost!!
Thanks,

BioEgo

Ok still don't know what went wrong but after reinstalling the game from scratch everything seems to be fine (at least so far!)
