VISTA

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

lol, free upgrade ftw?

VISTA is good, but its just got so many damn problems currently its not worth the hassle of upgrading to it. XP is perfectly fine for everything i do at the mo.

I've got multiple reports about Freelancer unable to connect to servers on Vista. Several people who upgraded their OS can no longer connect to Discovery servers; they thought it was mod-related, but then tested with Vanilla and other mods with same result.

I believe this issue is important, so if anyone has found possible causes and solutions, please share.

I seem to recall a connectivity issue in the past with TCP/IP version 6. Does Vista use that protocol? If so see if you can change it to regular TCP/IP

FL has long been known to have problems using IPv6, by default this is enabled in vista and many many games hate it. When i get vista i will search for a way to turn this off.

I have Vista, and in the network controls it has IPv6 AND IPv4 enabled. I tried just using IPv4, by disabling IPv6, but it made no difference.

I tried installing freelancer on my sister's new PC and it didn't work right for me either
I couldn't read any of the text properly it kept changing size and appearing in different spots on the screen (not where it should be)
also tried connecting to a server with the same problem as everyone else

I know this sounds really weird, but FL on Vista is incompatable with every anti-virus except AVG. Trust me, I uninstaled Norton, and I can connect fine now. However, I have an Intel chipset on my laptop, so the text is all bouncy..

Yeah, got probs w/ vista (chicken in my lanuage ) too - FL works, internet connected, firewall open, global server ok, but I still can't connect to Crossfire 1.7 24/7 server (Haven't tried others)... I've got the feeling like vista isn't even trying to connect - the "unable to connect" pops up just the same moment I press "Connect >"

I knew I shouldn't switch to that m-f***ing vista....
