comes up with "freelancer encountered an error when try

when i'm installing the game, when i get to 69% I get the massage:

Freelancer encountered an error while writing the file
C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Games\Freelancer\data\characters\anim...\bodystorymale.anm.
Make sure your hard disk is not full and that the file is not in use.

This is really annoying as i have been looking foward to playing for ages

Check your disk for a smudge or possible crack.

thanks, there was a little smudge on it, will check to see if it works now it's gone...

Nope, but there are some little scratches, could that be it?

That depends on how deep the scratches are.
Unless you treat CD's and DVD's with the greatest of care they will get scratched.
I've seen a scratched CD screw up the whole system because the data on the disk was scrambled and it cause havoc with the harddrive as it was being installed.

I would see if you can make a backup copy of the original disk.
Of coarse the freelancer CD is copy protected and wont actually work but at least you can see if it copied the data to a new CD.

Or try it on another computer that has never had FL installed on it, if that's a possibility.

hmmm... the scratches are very superficial, and i've tried copying it to my hard drive and to another CD and when i get to CAB2.cab it says there's an error (cyclic redundancy check)

i have a feeling i'm gonna have to buy another disk

Try to clean the CD with alchool. Sometimes it's working. But this error "cyclic redundancy check" is common to CD write with the Nero !!! What you hiding?
