Global Server connection problem.

Alright I know alot of us have been having a problem with freelancer multiplayer. When we go to play online we get an error saying that were disconnected from the Global server and then it goes on to recconect but nothing happens and no server list appears.
I myself have this same problem and I don't know a solution to it, but from what I've seen on various forums and topics is that no one really has found a real solution to this problem. I'm going to adress the ideas that people have come up with to try and fix the problem and explain that they don't work everyones tried them and something new needs to be thought of.

1.) It's not the firewalls, everyone has granted acces/disabled firewalls/opened ports/contacted ISP ect ect ect. THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM STOP TELLIN US IT IS, IT DOESN'T WORK.

2.) DirectX 9- Now I can't say for certain that this isn't the problem but I know it wasn't with me. Upon checking in "dxdiag" no problems where found anywhere with anything and yet the problem still exists.

3.) Graphics/Sound crads- I don't understand how this would be an issue at all seing as Multiplayer worked for these people and myself for days/months/or even years before the error occured, plus we can still play on single player with no problems.

4.) I havn't tried this yet and from what I've read it rarely if not hasn't worked for anyone. uninstalling Freelancer completely and then reinstalling it. First of all you lose your character to whatever server you where playing on if you do this. And second if it does fix the problem whats stopping it from happening again?!

5.) This is the last issue, using a seperate client such as Xfire, Gamespy, or All-seeing eye does absolutely nothing since it's just another way to launch the game, besides Gamespy/All-seeing eye don't support Freelancer so stop telling us to use them!

Well that's all. I don't have a solution to this problem but I am open to any suggestions other than any of the above since they just don't work. I'm not sure what the problem is but I doubt it is mod related as well since Everyone who has this problem says they're either running a mod or not.

"sigh"
Some people need to take a break from the game if they are so worried about the gobal server goes down.
Nothing is wrong, the gobal server goes down form time to time, has happened in the past.
Relax. If the gobal server went down, you can write down the server's IP and log into it by that fashion.

The global server isn't down. If the global server was down nobody would be able to get on, instead some can and some can't. And the server wouldn't be down for a whole week either. Your input was utterly useless, thanks *sarcasm*.

blahblah

1.) Global Server is on ATM!
2.) You dont need the global server to connect to a specific server!

@Genocite: What post? The global server is down for a few hours every now and then. Yes, eventually it'll get shut down. But even then, we'll just find new ways to deal with it. Maybe a post with the IP's of most popular servers wouldn't be a bad idea? People can post their own IP if they wanted to start a server, and so on.

If you know the IP of the server you want to play on, it's very simple to connect. Right click on a shortcut to Freelancer, click Properties. See the "Target" field? It should have someting like:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\exe\Freelancer.exe"

Alright, now just add -s, followed by your server's IP and port. For example, -s123.456.78.90:2302. It should look like this when you're done:
<pre><font size=1 face=Courier>"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\exe\Freelancer.exe" -s123.456.78.90:2302 </font></pre>

When you start the game, select Multiplayer, then LAN. The Server will show up regardless of Global Server status.

There are also other Direct Connection programs out there that let you connect when the global server is down. Sometimes they have a bunch of servers listed. You'll have to search for them, because I haven't been keeping up with the most recent ones.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but...
You shouldn't loose your character on a Multiplayer server since your game gets saved server side.

The best way to make sure you don't have any corrupt or left over files is to delete your freelancer folder then install freelancer, not uninstall and reinstall.

Then install the Freelancer SDK v1.3 files after you install Freelancer.

I think he's referring to losing his MP ID. Do as BP said and JUST delete your Freelancer folder in "Program Files/Microsoft Games/". Throw the CD back in the tray and choose REINSTALL. You won't lose your characters.
