LAN MP problems

Hi,

I'm trying to run Freelancer on W2K with sp4 at home. I have two problems:
1) When I try to connect to a game server on remote machine I get "operation took longer than expected" error and the game does not connect.
2) When I connect to a server on my own machine the game crashes (with send report to Microsoft message) after a while when I take a mission and try to leave the base.

I'm running W2K on Nvidia nForce4 mb, with Radeon X700 video card. Lan adapters are built-in, gigabit ethernet cards.

Has anyone experienced similar problems? I've tried many things, including reinstalling windows on another hd, running in compatibility mode, etc. I think the problem is somehow related to network play, but I'm not sure what exactly is wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Bratek

Sorry nobody tried to answer your question before now.
I don't know about everyone else but I just don't have any free time anymore.

Yes I have seen this problem before. Sounds like you have been using mod's. yes?
You need to delete your Freelancer folder... not uninstall but delete C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer
The reason we delete instead of uninstalling being, is we want to make sure there are no left over files from just doing the uninstall routine. This happens and then people wonder why Freelancer still don't work.

Then install Freelancer from the CD again.
The likely culprit is the flserver.exe file. It sounds like you have a edited flserver.exe file that changes the version number.

I would also install the Freelancer SDK v1.3 files after you install Freelancer
Download the SDK file here... http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/Download/Download.asp?ID=721

If this don't work, post here again with some information about what's happening... I will check back to see if that fixes the problem.

Also, the Nvidia ActiveArmor Firewall has been implicated in corrupting data that comes across your NIC. It's junk anyway - I would use the Windows native (XP post-SP2 install) or the Norton firewall, since you're using Win2K.
