Constantly crashes (checked stickies & searched)

I have been getting the same problems a lot of people seem to have solved by disabling 3d sound. I can play for ~5min, then my monitor goes black and sounds start looping and I have to manually restart my PC. I have downloaded that quickfix from the stickies and disabled 3d sound, but neither have fixed my problem. Any ideas?

EDIT: Here are my system specs (nothing is OCed):
-Athlon 64 3500+
-ATI Radeon 9800pro
-1gb PC3200 RAM
-Windows XP SP2

A little more info needed. Are you running any mods? or vanilla game?

Vanilla game. No mods besides v1.1 official patch.

EDIT: Should add this was happening before I installed v1.1 patch also, so it isn't the patch causing problems.

try running WMFDIST.EXE(on freelancer CD under /REDIST) - that will restore the original fraunhofer mp3 codec if its been replaced by codec packs, programs, etc - this has worked for me but the symptoms were more catastrophic than yours; it would just load the first screen and lock up when the window opened

if you are running the 64bit version of XP i'm afraid that may be it - if anyone has run FL in 64-bit with good reliability please chime in!

I would try deleting the freelancer forlder, and reinstall it. And don't use the patch, its for servers. Download the SDK and install it, then try new game. List when or if it crashes, what your doing in game, flying, fighting, tradelanes exct.

Your running almost the same machine as mine but I run a barton 3300+ not the 64 , exact same video card. Do you have the latest version of catalyst drivers?? and the newest version of direct X??. Might want to check msconfig to see whats running in the background if anything (like a screensaver program, or anything that updates itself). Might want to use a spyware remover as well. If all that doesn't work perhaps you might check if PC fans running properly?? keeping machine cool enough?

I'm running regular Windows XP, not 64-bit edition.

I have tried a fresh install nearly 3 times now, crashes both with & w/o patch. The game always crashes while I am in space. Never during cutscenes or when I am in a port. It is always when I am flying in space.

I have the newest (Catalyst 6.5) drivers installed for my vid card and the latest version of DirectX (9.0c I believe?). My fans are all working properly, but I do not have any case fans.. just the fans that came with my CPU and vid card preattached (built my own PC). Should I go get some case fans to keep the case cooler?

EDIT: Would a fan like this (http://www.compusa.com/products/product ... 4_pin_80mm) work?

EDIT #2: I just tried running the game after running WMFDIST.exe and disabling all my antivirus, spyware, firewalls, messengers, FRAPS, and a few other programs. It still crashed.

You can test for free and see if it is a cooing issue. Open the case, usually a cover, use a small fan and let it blow into the case. It willhelp drop the temps of the processor and the vid card. It it still crashes, your problem is else where. Did this one at work, to verify the fan problems.

Try to run FL in the Win 2000-compatibility mode. SP 2 is known to cause problems in some configurations.
