The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

I have no textures. Irritating...

Alright, so I've just installed Freelancer on my XP Pro system, and upon running it I don't have any textures. Everything shows up just fine through the destruction of Freeport 7 in the opening, but as soon as the news broadcast comes up, the textures go away and everything just appears as tan.

My system is as follows: 1ghz Pentium III 384mb RAM. 2 monitors (both of which cause the same problem), one on a GeForce FX5200 and one on a GeForce2 MX. Windows XP Pro running the Vista Transformation Pack 3.1 (though I doubt that's the problem...) Freelancer is installed on a 38gb ext2 partition (yes, I have Windows drivers for ext2 installed) with all of Louva-Deus' patches/QuickFixes.

I searched through the forums and tried just about everything anyone suggested to fix graphical problems, and no luck. Can anyone help me get this thing working?

Tried updating graphics drivers?

Failing that, you could always give it a fresh install and see how that goes.

I do have the latest Nvidia driver package installed (I believe it's nForce 83.something) on both cards.

Haven't tried a reinstall yet, I was going to use that as a last resort and if that didn't work just dual-boot with a clean Win2K install.

Ok here's a dumb question, and please don't flame me for it. Did you or have you obtained th newest versions of directx? Also have you checked MS support pages? I know it's dumb but a blind spot by definition is a place you don't see.

Yes, and yes. I have the latest DirectX (it's 9.0c, isn't it?), and I have run through the MS support database and tried everything they told me to.

And I agree about obvious blindspots, I've seen that happen fairly often. Like when you call tech support about a printer, the first two questions will always be "Is it plugged in" and "Is it connected to your computer."

i have both those gfx cards and i've never experienced any graphics problems -
for the geforce2 mx i would recommend using the drivers that came with it, or if you can't find them do some googling and find out what other users are recommending; note that the detonator series of drivers have been cited as unstable and difficult to install/uninstall - so avoid them

vista transformation pack?erg. haven't tried it but i think anything M$ is suspect

That's just the thing, the Vista transpack isn't by M$. It's by some third-party group of coders who realized that the only thing that's really in Vista and not in XP is Aero Glass, then coded it into XP. Which is why I think that may be screwing things up...
