Having problems running Broken Oath

Yesterday I downloaded Broken Oath Complete version 1.0 from the downloads page.

I installed today but got a CTD straight away. I realised that I hadn't cleared my saves from Documents and Settings so I went back and cleared this, uninstalled FL, and FLMM. Checked that the saves and accounts were gone, FL and FLMM (including all mods) completely removed, SDK gone etc.

I then:

* read the readme that comes with Broken Oath and printed a copy
* completely uninstalled FLMM, FL, all mods and old saves and accounts, etc
* Installed FL from the CD version 1.0 - and restarted windows as advised
* Installed the SDK 1.3 which I got from TLR
* Installed FLMM version 1.3 (dl'ed from TLR)
* Installed Broken Oath Complete version 1.0 (dl'ed from TLR)
* Activated both the Broken Oath Mods - multiplayer and Open SP - in FLMM
* No other mods active apart from the 2 Broken Oath Mods
* Launched FL from FLMM menu option

I have had 2 CTD's, the first about 5 minutes in and the second, just now about 15 minutes in. First was when docking with a trade lane, second was on autopilot heading towards a base.

I've been running the standard FL, single player plot for about 100 or more hours in total and not had any problems. I did post about problems with CTDs in Hostile Universe last week so I have had problems running mods before.

I get a message from FL when it starts that it doesn't recognise my video card - which is right as the card wasn't around when FL was developed. This is the card that runs FL vanilla o.k. and my machine runs X3 the Reunion o.k. I have a NVidia GeForce 6800 PCI-E with 256meg on board.

As I'm not having much luck running mods I assume that I'm doing something wrong or missing some important step. Can anyone give me a checklist of things to check or possible things that I should consider?

Cheers

For the record :
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+
I gig ram
NVidia GeForce 6800 PCI-E with 256meg
I can post a full hardware report from Everest Home edition if this may help

as I've been wondering if i can run *any* mod at all I dl'ed a copy of 1001BeforeFP7 from TLR and have been running this for a couple of hours with out a CTD. Can't stay alive longer than 15 minutes but that's not the mods fault!!

If you have a good strategy for this mod, pls let me know....

A question for you. Open FLMM and open Tools and click on Restore Backups. The play the vanilla game. If no crashes, then a problem with a mod(s). If vanilla works, then try Open SP. If ok then add one of the troublesome mods. If it crashes, then that mod is the one with the problem. Process of deduction.

okay cool. I'll run this through today and post later on with how I get on.

Broken Oath Update

First off, I ran 1001Beforefreeport7 mod for 3+ hours without a problem, from a clean install.

Broken Oath still crashes to desktop. I'm not saying that there is something fundamentally wrong with the mod as the other hundred plus ppl that dl'ed it don't seem to have a problem. So I expect that it is the video card or some sort of config. issue? Here's what I did:

1. delete FL, FLMM, all mods, & saves -- manually checked all dirs for delete

2. Installed FL from CDROM version 1.0

3. Restarted windows

4. Installed SDK 1.3

5. Installed FLMM 1.3

6. Installed broken oath mod thru FLMM

7. Activated Broken Oath both mods in FLMM (MP & SP)

8. Installed OpenSP in FLMM but didn't activate it

9. In FLMM launched FL, New Game (Broken Oath)

10. CTD (crash to desktop) around 5 minutes into game

11. Deactivated both Broken Oath mods in FLMM

12. Ran FLMM / tools / restore backups -- okay nothing to restore as this was a vanilla install

13. Run Vanilla FL - no mods, new game, plot, straight to cut scenes, hello Juni and king. Played this for 2 hours 15 minutes, no crashes or anything odd.

14. Quit and ran FLMM, activated OpenSP (not Broken Oath open sp), ran this as a new game for over 2 hours, no problems.

15. Deactivated OpenSP in FLMM and activated Broken Oath 2 mods (checked to see that there were no saved games left around)

16. Started a new game in FLMM Broken Oath and looking good... but crashed to desktop at around 24 minutes in to game

So any ideas what to do now? This is hard work!

red777, you can relax it's not you, unfortunately I don't think Mace ran FLScan on it before he released it. He has a lot of errors in the market and loadout files, that's more than enough to cause you the random CTD's your getting.

He has a thread here for the mod, so post in there to get his attention.

**shuffles of with a new headache**

thanks dude, I'll redirect my attention to the thread.

To anybody following this thread, problems have been found with a number of the ship loadouts that has been causing the game to crash. My agologies for this, I have uploaded the patch to fix the mod and will release a clean 1.1 version of the mod itself with the patch installed.
