problem while firing weapons

ok so i recently reformatted and got the urge to play freelancer again. I install it perfect not a problem, i start the campaign and launch and watch the dnau get plastered and start firing. the weapons have the muzzle flash but the actual weapon projectiles don not show well a few will show once in a while but otherwise the only way i know if i've made a hit is if i see them take damage or their shields flare, in all my time playing fl it's never done this before so i am completely clueless as to whats wrong, i can still play but i'd really like to get this fixed.

Huh ... You know what? I have exactly the same problem.

Well, except for the "urge to play /again/" part, being that I'm new to the game. (Bargain bin, 2 Euros.) But other than that ... Also just did a clean re-install of WinXP (Pro), got the latest Video drivers and DirectX. Think I applied the 1.4 unofficial patch. Haven't run into any other problems, except for the non-showing projectiles.

Sometimes they do show, sometimes they don't. Seems to depend (partly) on how busy the scene is. Problem is mostly isolated to the faster-firing weapons - those with a slower firerate tend to show up. Problem can sometimes be temporarily fixed by changing some video options (screen resolution / color depth), but reverts back again often in a few seconds.

It's kind of annoying, not game-breaking or anything, but annoying nontheless.

Anyone have any ideas ?

EDIT: Right. Some system info: AMD Athlon 1400+, 256MB RAM, Geforce2 MX/MX 400.
