Have hardware, need a good mod.

Hi all,

Been playing FL for going on 3 years now. Love the game and love the mods. I have always been a big fan of Rebalance 3.5, too. So, here's where I need the input of more knowledgeable members of the community:

I recently came into a very good piece of hardware. A HP prolient server with 4X 2.8 ghz processors, 4 gigs ram, 4X 36 gig drives in a RAID 5 configuration, redundant fan, powersupply, and NIC config. The connection speed is a OC-12, so I have a ton of horsepower... You get the idea.

I'm hosting my small website there, but it's not even hitting the processor up to 1% and the Memory used is still showing at about 2%. This just screams under-used.

I want to host a Freelancer mod on the server, and have some pretty decent server running knowledge. I was running rebalance 3.5, but the mod crashed about every 15 minutes. So, I tried WTS World 3.42 for a while. Perfectly stable and 0 downtime. But, there were so many features which were done through scripts that it kind of lost its magic.

Sooooo.....

What mod would you guys recommend hosting? I'd love to do an exclusive with WTS 4.14 or Nightstalker's Universe, but those both already have established servers and, at this point, I'm a nobody to them, so I doubt they'd want me to host their stuff. So, what's another good one out there that you guys play or have played?

Oh, sorry. Based out of the eastern us. On the connection I have, though, it doesn't matter too much. I have about a 60 ms ping from canada and about 90 ms from toyko, japan.

And thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into those.

Those are Mod's in development that the cheese on toast man has in his signature.

Ya, Rebalance has a few bugs that were never fixed
WTS is a great Mod.

Epsilon Freelancer Mod Version 3.11 would be a good choice, I don't think there is a server running it right now and the Mod is very stable.
Also the Epsilon Mod datafiles for use with the IONCROSS Server Operator are available.
Epsilon MOD v311 IONCROSS Data Files
The Epsilon Mod has its own Forum thread Nova Design Team for discussions, screenshots and feedback.
So it would be a good choice for your server.

There are a lot of great Mod's, last time I checked there are over 2,500 downloadable files on the Lancers Reactor server.

So trying to find one Mod that you like is a hard task but I'm sure you'll get some suggestions from the community members

Oh, yeah. The number of downloads is insane! But, like you said, I'm sure I'll get some good suggestions. Thus this thread. I'll check into that mod, now.

just go to the downloads and sort them by number of downloads (DLs)
then you see which are the most popular

Nuff said.

If your interested in helping me test it live that would be great. Not done yet and the information on the thread needs to be updated. Working slowly but hard on the mod.

1 question. Where did you get your hands on a server like that?

I'm currently testing my mod in Open Single Player. (not compatable with single player since there are too many changes there) .
But my next step is to start setting it up for multiplayer.

Thanks for all the great input, everyone. I think I'm going to offer up the server to the folks over at the Requiem Mod forums. Their mod, I think, has some of the highest potential I've seen in a long time. The community there is great and the modders are always asking the posters, "OK, what should we do next?" That's very refreshing to see.

Again, thanks all!
