Tradelane Speed Limit

I think that the following will have a profound effect on those trying to break the Tradelane Speed Limit :

Awsome!

How did you do it?

Post Fri Mar 14, 2003 12:47 pm

Sorry, I was excessively vague in that... err, on purpose I'm afraid!

That screenshot shows the *TRUE* speed that your ship goes at when using tradelanes, instead of 999 or "---". While hunting for the location for the speed limit, I came across the location for the *DISPLAY* limit - that's all it is, I removed the display limit so that the true value appeared.

I'm hoping to have the speed limit cracked by the end of the weekend.

Can someone please explain how this was done?

Post Mon Mar 17, 2003 6:58 pm

I would like to know how myself, I couldn't find the DISPLAY LIMIT he mentions, although I did figure out the cruise speeds. Where is the command for the speed indicator?

C'mon man! Give us a teaser here, how'd you remove the display limit?

** Bump **

Well I'm going to guess, and say he hard coded the dll to reflect the speed, rather then found which ini references the ids name via dll.

Resources.dll
Table 83:
ID: 1318, "---"

Theres the "---" if you change that to statically say 2500 in game you hit the tradelane when you reach a certain speed it changes to that id/number.

So thats my guess, of what happened.

You might have a point there, bytelock... at least I wonder why he isn't answering. *shrugs*

If it is true the same theroy could be applied to the crusie limit speed of 300 since we can now adjust the cruise speed to a max of 990 in the constants.ini file would be really handy to have it displayed onscreen too (hopefully without editing the dll as this would make the installign a little difficult methinks)

At this point I want to call shenanigans on this guy. I'm inclined to think what he has there is a doctored screenshot.

On a side note: Anyone noticed how if you're in cruise at say.. 990k and you kill your engines the speedometer all of the sudden changes to reflect your actual speed instead of 300? Odd.

thats what i mean dude, the game is overriding the real speed with this displayed number of 300, if it is possible to turn that off or at least edit so it stays current with your actual speed this would be a good good thing lol.
