Adding Gaatling Gun?

I was asking myself if it could be possible to implement a kind of bullet-firing weapon. Basicaly, it could work like a laser gun with a counted amount of ammo, with a high firing rate, heavy hull damage (perhaps shield piercing), and very fast bullet. It may be possible to change the settings of a missile launcher, if counting ammo on laser is not possible. It also could be cool to reflect the fact that projectile with a very high speed are able to perforate multiple target (on the same line, and it seems impossible without a sdk), and can go very far (not sure it's useful). Those ones would provide heavy fire power, so there must be a limit on the amount of ammo. It can also be dangerous to use it unwisely, since you can hit a friend through a bad guy.
This kind of weapon could give way to some special shield able to block fast solid projectile (doable without a SDK?)

So is this doable, in the actual "state of the art" ?

btw, I may try to do such thing as soon as the game is released in my country...

i was looking at this as one thing i was gonna add

the way it works its VERY possible..... tho not sure how the game would accept it

each gun stats has a thing to change whether the weapon uses ammo or not, and the ammo is selected in this

so you could probably also get a gun to fire a missile

anyway, havnt looked into it much, and tbh im too busy (not at home) to have a look at this until the weekend

so could you make a weapon that was "hitscan"? as in a gun that hits instantly, so you just put the crosshair over the target (not the lead indicator, the actual ship) and fire?

Like the railgun in Quake, basically?

Not exactly an instant fire mode. Rather some high speed bullet like in a classic flight sim. Btw, the railgun could be cool to implement, but smb already posts a way to do an instant fire laser-based gun.

i dont know a bit bout modding, but...msls and guns use the same hardpoitns, right? so why dont u mod a msl which acts like a gatling or other slug thrower? push up the refire rate and here u go. a problem may be the ammo. msls have a max of 50 rounds....dont think thats enough for a gun firing up to 6000 bullets/sec....

I always thought that like a giant powerup beam cannon kinda thing, that needs to charge much like cruise engines and then release a devastating beam. u know a very big beam capable of destroying anything in its path for quite some distance. just my two pennies

I was thinking if you turned up the firing rate of namad lasers and lowered the amount of damage per shot one could have a laser style weapon like the ones used on Babylon 5. What do you think is it possible?

Junkers base in Liberty sells barragers. They have unlimited ammo but look like a chain gun and fire little "bullets"
