Rolling

I don't know if this already has been discussed, and I'm sorry for the redundancy if it has. But I'm curious if anybody here has any insights on implementing ship rolling? And for that matter, strafing vertically?

you can make it possible to "roll" by increaseing max_angle to 360....standard is 30 or 35 for fighters - very heavy fighters

The only problem here is that you cannot independently control the "roll", which is what people seem to want.

A key for roll left and a key for roll right.

I've been able to get rolling in cockpit while not in freeflight, but thats not too useful now is it? There is something very odd about switching camera views. In MP last night I noticed when I switched to cockpit view I was facing a station dead on, but when switching to 3rd person view, my ship rolled back to its previous angle... very odd. Also, if you roll while in cockpit view and switch to 3rd person, it rolls you right back. I have no idea why, and I'm not sure if I ever will. lol.

And how did you get rolling while in cockpit view, if you don't mind me asking?

on another comp now so I can't help you out with the exact strings...
but basically I touched on this in another post.

first you need to go into keymap.ini and take user_z_rotate and user_z_unrotate or something like that to the bottom of the file under idr_cockpit heading. Then you need to go to your userkeymaps file and add/bind the user_z_rotate/unrotate commands to some key (eg I had used q and e). You can also add the user_z_rotate/unrotate along with its appropriate id to keylist.ini if you want to be able to rebind the roll function from the options > controls menu in game. If this is too vague or just not right, hunt back for my old post titled "I added rolling but..."
