*Project* Multiple starting Characters for MP

Can it be done? I know we can change the starting character and all for all, but can we make it a choice?

Also, how do you change the mp starting faction? It doesn't seem to work for me...

I've given this a lot of thought. The only vector I've come up with were rewards for npc missions.

Take a look at the Pirate mod that's available on the Download page. There's a multiplayer *.fl file included where the faction is set as well as faction reputations. Also there's starting base, ship, money, etc. Pretty straight forward.

But you are right. There should be a way to set up a menu and give the player a choice of characters, bases, and faction affilliations.

It seems like it is possible because, when you start a new character in MP, it shows you the starting base and the character and everything...so I was thinking that maybe they intended to allow multiple character choices at first and then later took it out...which means the code is probably hiding somewhere...just haven't had any luck finding it. Also, changing the faction group in the newcharacter.ini does nothing...so where is the new character faction information?

What would happen if you made a clone of the 3 parts and placed it in the same file? I would think this was for single player only. Do you know where the Multiplayer character info is?

No dice on the cloning....unless there's an extra tag or function that has to be added...

i thought i was NewmpCharacter.ini or something that looks like it MPcharacter.ini or mpnewcharacter.ini i know its there download the pirate mod and you'll know the name and place

how factions view you in multiplayer is listed in mpnewcharacter.fl in the EXE directory...its uncompressed so easy to edit....cant wait till there is an fl file decompressor so i can mess with single player

Anyone yet get how to edit money starting location. also the oirate mod is it server side or does clients neeed too??

I'm curious if there has been any progress in this since. After all, it seems clear that Digital Anvil originally planned having at least a selection of pre-made characters if not an actual character generation. Custom characters would really add so much to this game. As it is, we're limited to Goody Two-shoes the nice blond boy from next door...
Especially for MP games, it would be neat to have an option for starting games with random starting locations.

Yup - you'll get Juni all right, but she talks a bit ...rugged Also, her animations are screwed up, arms sticking out the front of her chest, mouth not moving - not a pretty sight

Yup, I tried the "juni" thing, and, afaik, there's nothing I can do for her arms.

And no, I still don't get the choice between Trent or Juni, only Juni.
To be able to change the faction, you must edit mpnewcharacter.fl
and remove the ; in front of initial_rep.

Does it matter that you have
thumb = interface\intro\objects\MULTI_blackdragonmale.3db
on both characters? I see that you changed male to female on all instances but this. Are there even other thumbs to select from?
