Freelancer MOD installer!

The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!

Post Tue Mar 11, 2003 5:41 pm

Thanks! I have a long list of things to do, but there are a few that I'm going to do asap:
-get FL directory from Registry
-no error message if ini file is uncompressed already
-more descriptive error messages

I'm planning on eventually making this into a mod manager, that lets you enable/disable mods at will, and mix and match them if they work together.

Ok, I've updated Freelancer Installer to v0.2! Things changed:
-Less useless error messages
-Redesigned the dialog for future use
-It now supports multiple scripts!
-Tells you if the mod is installed or not
-It now reads the Freelancer directory from the Registry
-Added two new methods: "new" and "sectionreplace"

Please test it out for me, and give me plenty of feedback

Looks even better now and installed without a hitch, no error messages at all. But when I tried to restore it. Look like it worked. No error messages, but when I went into the game there where no ships for sale. I guess it loaded up the wrong .ini file. But it looks great keep up the good work!

Ok, I just fixed that bug, anttch. It wasn't properly restoring the market_ships.ini file

Well that was the only problem I had everything else looks great!

Interesting.. I unziped the new version, overwriting the old. tried to run, got the error "Cant open file installer.dat, error = 2"

So, I deleted the whole thing, and unzipped again, but, still got the same error..

Well beltic it looks like he uploaded a new version. Because, I redownloaded it and the bug I had is now fixed. But I couldn't receate your error.

I'm also always using a clean install of freelancer.

make sure the installer.dat is in the proper directory. It should be under scripts/battleshipmod, relative to the flinstaller.exe file.

this is exactly what i was hoping for i think, but i have a few questions

1) if i install a mod will restore remove just the currently selected mod, or will it restore freelancer to original condition?

2) what filesandor directories do i need to backup for safety

3)will we be able to get more mods like this, where all we have to do is put a downloaded file into the flinstall directory and we can put just add it in from there?

i haven't used it yet cause i m not sure what to do to make things safe in case of problems.

but thank you very much! this will realy be great for those of us like myself who get way too confused with the modding to try it in any relative safety.

1. It backs up the current ini files, and then restores them. If you install and then immediately uninstall the mod, it's like you never installed the mod at all

2. For my installation, I backed up the entire DATA directory

3. Eventually, it'll be even easier than that!

IGx89 - I'm pretty confident it's not your fault - but since using the first version you gave out of this I can't play Freelancer. At all.

I installed the mod, went into the game, loaded my single player game few about with the battleship for alittle while, came back out tried the restore button . . . and it's not working.

The game runs in the intro videos. Comes up with the splash screen, then drops to the desktop with an error box. I think it's having an access violation in one of the DLL files, or something with DirectX.

It does this even after I've reinstalled the game three times, reinstalled DirectX as well as trying the generic video drivers. I haven't got the faintest idea what to try next! And since this was the last thing to do anything to the game I thought I'd ask you (or anyone else for that matter) if you had any ideas? Please? I wanna play.

Hmm, I had a similar problem yesterday. No matter what I did, even clean installing Freelancer, it didn't work. I finally figured it out, though: go to My Documents\My Games\Freelancer, and delete PerfOptions.ini. That should do the trick, though I have absolutely no idea why it does that! My installer doesn't even touch that file.

That didn't work, but killing the whole Freelancer folder there did.

Thank you.

It's safe, but I'll have a much better version done later today

The crashing problem is with that battleship mod, I'm pretty sure. I'll have to talk to Wanderer about that, to see if he knows anything more...
