Hey guys,
Been a long time lurker, but had to throw in my idea.

Since .ini files can be built using scripts, it would be interesting for someone to build a simple high level strategic map based on the FL universe. From there, you would move fleets, and when it’s time for battle, the engine would build the .ini files required when you load up FL.

You’d have a strategic framework, and get to play out the battles…

Sounds fun to me!
Now I wish I’d gotten into VB in my previous life.

A cool thing to "add" to FL is to, somehow, make tradelanes and docking rings "allways on". Disabling the use of autopilot.
It's so annoying, when you got alot of enemies after you, the only thing to do is flee, and the autopilot takes so long to "aline" itself to the tradelane!

Time for another part of better or worse ideas, this time I'll also write down some that I've dropped before just because I thought they might be too hard to make in a mod (maybe later in in an addon or sth.)

But first some comments on other ideas:

I don't quite like the idea of loosing everything every time you die. I died twice just because of lag. Once got attacked by 'invisible' ships and was toast before I could react, second time was the minefield that just didn't show up untill I hit the mine. Yet I think that maybe deducting let's say 10%-25% of your ships worth from your account , among with loosing cargo should be enough. To think of that this could mean that your account goes to negative value so you can't trade/repair unless you make money other way like taking missions.

Good idea, never thought of that , and this would make attacking stations a real deal... just to make some space for yours hehe. The only problem with stations is what do you do with them when player goes offline? If they stay I might be unhappy if someone would blow my base when I was at work. If they dissapear with player...well that looks kinda stupid.
Maybe if the station could not be destroyed but just rendered inoperative...on the other hand it means that in time all space will be filled and no new player could build his base. Unless there'd be sth like upkeep for bases, so if owner doesn't show up and contribude to his base it'd be dismantled over time...long time.

Well how about storage space? Or of course limited manufacturing as well (not to mention garage if someone could implement multiple ships).

But all this space station talk doesn't seem to be very much in line with the game. It's called "Freelancer" not "Space Tycoon" anyway , so I'd rather skip that and leave building bases to other games.

And now to other ideas:

1) Battleships again:

being able to own and pilot a battleship (with automated turrets of course), that other small ships could dock with.

pros: really huge ship with loads of firepower and defense, loads of cargo space etc.
cons: not being able to land on planets or use trade lanes (except for system gates) or dock with stations (again except for very few cosmic drydocks)

This in turn means that you just have to have friends that will supply you, bring trade cargo, cover you from torpedo attacks etc.

2) Changing shield batteries/nanobots to gun energy batteries/ammo, and changing cannons so some use up energy and some ammo and removing, or just reducing strongly the automatic gun energy refill. This way there's no possibility to auto repelnish your shield/hull status in mid combat and also ensures that you have to land and repelnish your ammo stock. Now that would make the game much harder and more fun. Of course bigger gun would eat up ammo/batts more quicly etc.

3) Communication channels. I'd really love to have more than hailing other ships, but be able to order them to drop cargo (yea pirating stuff again), ask for help or trade with npc ships in midspace just like with players.

4) Missiles/Torpedoes. Now that's simple, just make them faster, faaaaar more deadly and more expensive. I'd finally use those in the game for something more than just fun.

Those are of course just general ideas, dome are doable some aren't (yet), hope that someone even reads them . Again sorry for not trying to mod this game myself instead of just dropping ideas and for my spelling/grammar too.

I hope, for everyone's sake, that you people realize that there is no possibility of a real mod (one that involves new or changed code) being done. Having all these ideas is fine, but they're ultimately a waste of bandwidth if there's no chance of expanding on the game's actual code.

i am making my own mod and running it on a dedicated server that i hope to build, here are some things that i ultimatly would like to add to it:

1. a lot more ships, i have added all the tutorials i have found and plan to start making my own ships

2. a lot more systems, i also plan to add these myself if/when i get the graphical systems editer

3. the ability to launch fighters, could be treated kinda like a missile launcher, would be built into the ship when you buy it, you would buy the ships like ammo from stations, and different stations could sell different fighters like different missiles for the same launcher. when you fired it it would spawn a ai controlled friendly fighter out of the area designated on the ship's modle(would probably only work on custom ships so you could make fighter bays and the fighters wouldn't be flying out of a empty turret hardpoint) and the fighter would enter formation with you and atack your enemies.

4. the ability to capture space stations. this is a tough one, but i i have some ideas on how it might work: right now the stations are indestructable, and everyone thinks that would get in the way cus if you destroy them it crashes the server, but what if they remained indestructable. maybe you could set it up so that you could change their allegiance by disabling all their turrets and killing the fighters that it would launch. it would be scripted so that if you piss them off they will launch a tone of really powerful fighters and fire their guns at you(it would have to be very hard, maybe the fighters would keep coming, and have more of them/stronger depending on the station) if you killed all the fighters and turrets then they would surrender to you. then the station would have to pay you tribute(a small amount of cash added every 5 minutes or something) and take orders from you. the station would be friendly to you no matter what afterwards and you could choose who it atacks/is friendly with. this would also let you use it as a tool to change your alliegance i.e. tell it to kill all liberty ships and rogues will start to like you. maybe you could capture planets too, they would have less turrets on the docking ring, but would launch a lot more fighters.

5. fleet c&c, this also goes with launching fighters, but once you launch the fighters it would be nice if you could give them orders like telling them to dock for instance. also, that way if you wanted to be more friendly with liberty you could tell your fighters not to fire on them and you could use fighters against real people.

6. some control over stations you have captured; for instance you could use your credits and have it build any ship in it's inventory to be one of your wingmen, and maybe you could set tax levels on the comodities to make a little cash(although setting it too high would make people not want to trade with you, and too low would lose money).

7. 3 dimentional systems where you might actually have to fly UP to get to a planet.

8. new station modles; helpful for when i start adding diferent races other then human

9.regenerative armor, i want to have a race who's ships don't use shields, but slowly repair their hull

the way i figure it, in my mod, everything will basically be the same except instead of cutting off when you get the biggest fighter, the replay value will be almost infinite because you will be able to work your way up to the point where you basically own an empire with an army and trading relationships between your friend's empires.

ultimatly i want to have a server capable of 100 people or more at once that will be running 24/7 with this mod. make it into a sort of a mmog for free! even if it is being overly optomistic...take that earth and beyond!

Could it be possible to fly Ragnarok in freelancer.Ragnarok is ship from final fantasy 8.It is prety cool.

I will post image as soon as somebody tells me how to do it.

HI all lancers.

From what i seen here this mod should really improve the FL experience. If ya want, i help adding new systems for free, BUT, i don't know how to add new names to bases/sectors. Anyone?

Here are my suggestions :

PLAYERS SHALL BE able to buy a base/build a base of their own, like EVE

INVENT NEW WEAPONS, little like factionmade weapons

INVENT NEW SHIPS. That say it all, doesnt it?

Check the date of last posting in threads before replying, lets face it - over 5 months, or approx 160 days to be more precise here, is a long long time to be expecting a reply!
