WG: Freelancer has been in development for some time (several years) with previous showings at E3. What contributed primarily to the delay?
JN & AF: Freelancer has been in development for about six years. Obviously that is a very long time for a game, but there's actually more to it than that. When we founded Digital Anvil, we basically wanted to start from scratch. We wanted to do it right. We had no code, no tools, absolutely nothing ? just the talent in the building. The first years were spend getting basic data structures in place, writing initial prototype rendering tools, editors, etc. Freelancer's prototype was actually very successful and in many ways looked like a nearly finished game. With that in place, the remaining years were spent on actually making the product, building the universe and then refining and polishing everything. It took longer to deliver this game than we initially thought and hoped, but like with many new and ambitious things, it was hard to predict - but I'm very happy to say, it was well worth it.

That, at least to me sounds hopeful.
