New Forum

We are considering starting a new Forum for advanced Freelancer editing - this would be a more organized forum with different sections for editing areas etc. This would not be a replacement for this site just a more organized forum with room for more chat/spamming etc.

Also it would be nice to have 'mod' forums - a forum for each 'mod' idea that is under discussion so the messages are not flooding others.

Anyway I would be paying for this on EZBoard but only if enough people are interested.

So post interest here.

Yea, I think these Freelancer forums here could use a "Mod" section. That seems to be a lot of the discussion in here.

Where can I find phpBBB? Oh, and by free do you mean I can get it hosted for free? - or that I can just download it for free?

I dont have the bandwidth to host a Forum server on my cable =(

Don't know, seems like it would just be easier to stay consolidated under one forum to me.

As mods do solidify, I plan on letting them have their own forums here... As it stands, 95% of all mods die a quick death, so I want to see some longivity in the project before I start doing special stuff for them

Sub-sectioning this forum into ini editing, file hacks, utility ideas and total conversions would serve the same result. Also text files with information for modders as information becomes available would help to stop the same "How do I" questions being asked too many times. They need only describe each field in the ini files so that others can understand what theey are playing with.

Once I get more info on the weapons files, I want to try to create an ini editor front end in VB5 that will enable you to change stats of any weapon without manually editing the ini files yourself. I hope to update it later when the actual weapon name entry is found so that new weapons can be added and given new names. It should automatically update all ini files so that you can modify any part of the weapon and even who sells it. This would go into the utility ideas forum so that we don't have several people working independantly on their own variant of the same utility. Or we can exchange ideas and have two people working together on the same project if someone else is already well ahead with the same idea.

@Tryst: The names of weapone are, like most strings and texts, in the dlls in the EXE directory of the game ... you need a resource editor to view them ...

Well using a forum with search function, and sub forums for each mod, and maybe major parts of the editing would make it easier to keep track of all.

So I guess it sounds like a good idea.

Using phpbb sounds aswell reasonable, though this server supports no php afaik, but well finding another server to host it should be no problem. (if needed I can host, but I think that some of the lancersreactor admins or admins of the other sites could host it easy aswell, so its more a question if the admins of the several lancers sites want to have a central place for editing and give up a part of their independence about this area)

its important that we get one acknowleged Mod forum. not all kinds of little splinter groups. Also like i said before, PhpBB is my favorite. But any kind of forum anywhere is good enough for me as long as all the mod talk is in one Central place.
