Making bases destroyable (MP)

I don't know about you guys, but I think it would be pretty cool if you could destroy bases/battleships or anything that's large in this game... ofcourse it should be difficult, but imagine to gather around a couple of friends and attack some Liberty base... starkillers, and guns blazing for some crazy loot, and a big hole for those who get there.

Also it would be cool to see individual reputations... for instance, instead of just having factions, each player could have a certain rep. ; and for instance have a bounty on his head, so that if i.e. Player1 has a bounty on him, any player could take a mission to destroy him, get a reward, and tractor his ass to prison... or something...

Anyway, the main issue, I'd like HP on the bigger things, the outposts, etc. ; I wouldn't care if they were rebuilt every ingame 5 hours or so... but just the oppurtunity to blast a Rheinland warship into small bits would be really cool.

Well, for the Mod that I've been looking into, I intend on doing that individual rep thing...kinda.

And I've looked into making outpost destroyable. But its not going well. They are treated like planets, in the sense that they buy and distribute goods. So it's hard to say, but adding in other outposts, and having them destroyable, that seems a lot easier.

This would be a really bad idea to "Making bases destroyable".

Just imagine what would happen if i and some friends comes to Liberty with like 5 titans, and destroy EVERY starbase, jumpgate and so on, u think the newbs would think this would be fun?

If this should work *for real* we need them to self-repair / respawn within a certain amount of time, or this will not work, every station will end up destroyed in the end, only leaving the planets to travel too... And perhaps a not wanted effect might be that you could destroy planets too, leaving NO bases whatsoever on the server, and this might force to do a complete reinstall of the game on the server.

I totaly agree with you!

Exo: Wow, talk about a worst-case-scenario-possible ; what you're talking about is about as likely as being struck by lightning ten times in a cave 500 meters below ground , It's possible, if you draw the right cables from the surface to a station below ground, etc... but not really interesting?

48 systems.. and even IF 5 people with titans clean out the entire server, a reset of the server (no, no reinstall required) would be enough. PLUS, defenses are pretty intense near outposts and heavy bases... plus you are forgetting that there are missile-defensestations and cruisers around those areas.

Anyway... I still think this would be a very good idea... and as for newbies, well... there can't be servers that are suited for EVERYONE... a couple of these servers would be nice... so you could have some variation.

one way around actually destroying it is just disable docking to it for a time frame while it "repairs". That way people could disable bases but not destroy them. And the code to refuse docking due to faction or traffic is already there.

fisk, even the Rheinland base defenses is **** if attacked by 1 Titan, and if 5 attacks it would be devestating. Nor the less there are several other problems with this, what would happen if you are on that very same station thats destroyed? i mean would u die, and if so, where to respawn? the last autosave WAS on that base.

I am against destruction of the planets/bases totaly (aka server reset to get it back) but not *almost* destroying them, like just disableing docking, and only letting ppl take off. Then the station would 'burn' for some time before it starts getting repaired.

if you disable them you should make the ships launch but not dock

and if youre are attacking a base or planet there must be some protecting showing up like 2 cruiser 3 anubis and 6 defenders (or something like that)

and with planets a battleship and some squadrons of fighters

a good idea, but i also agree with exo. This should be VERY well balanced

While it would be fun to take out a base, it would get old real fast if people just sit back destroying the bases. Disabling them is a good idea. If they're to be destroyed, then have them respawn after a bit. You could also make them super powerful and very difficult to take out. Say if attacked, nice little armada of cruisers show up to defend the base.

yeah and the armada should be of ships your most aligned with. you're good friends with the rheinland miltary? then here come the valks and gunboats >

how about (this isnt possible at the moment, but im sure eventually it will be)

if when a base is destoyed, its turns into a mass of debris.......

a consruction ships toddles along and sits next to the base..... (maybe make this con ship indestructable)

every so often a peice is put back together (maybe taking 15 mins to rebuild total)

then when finished it opens again

would require model replacing on events (probably some sort of timer)

maybe impossible atm
but in the future...not at all impossible

an SDK really would help

You just washed up here or something?

That's what I've been working on. A new weapon that can destroy a base. If you hack at it with one of the level 3 guns with a 200+ hit against hulls, the red bar goes down just slightly but enough to show that a BFG should kill a base in a few shots. A very slow fire rate and slow projectile rate would make it useless against another ship.

A medium sized gun would do a lot of damage but give enough time for a squad of pretectors to prevent the enemy from destroying their base. I'm looking to create the medium sized base killer gun but need more info on the ini files to do it. If I could even edit a standard weapon for now, it could be renamed later when someone figures out how to mod the files used to name the weapons.
