Capture the Base Mod

Hello, we are starting work on a Base control type mod for freelancer, our intent is to create smaller 'systems' that contain central controllable base points and planets - the concept of the game is to 'take control' of these areas by either touching some form of flag or switch. Upon controlling an area all turrets, battleships etc. will be 'friendly' to your team and 'enemies' to the other and so you can see how this works.

[another option here is for each side to have ONE battleship that must be escorted and 'defended' for 5 mins in the area to control that area

Very similar to Tribes Capture and Hold or king of the hill type games.. and that is the point.

We also hope to have purchaseable and placeable weapons like Weapons Platforms and turrets etc.

We also would like to have pilotable battleships and capital ships, but these would be for specific purposes like in-field repairs and ammo drops etc.

Anyway, post more ideas/interest here!

How is your approach on actually implementing such thing in the game? There are no SDKs yet.

Sounds feasible. If you could force a player's rep (team 1) to be neutral with a base, the hard part will be how the game will know to change it. Having an SDK would make this easier...

This won't be possible (or at least probable) until we either figure out the dacom API, or they release source for the dedicated server.
Take a look at dacom.ini. You'll see that the server is built from components.

Yeah this is all assuming an API will be released.. but the more mod interest people give now the more likely this is going to happen.

So get thinking, and get your ideas down!

I dont really see the use of this since there are no "new rounds" in Freelancer, and therefore "capture the base" would not work that well. A player, or a clan cannot be online 24/7 to guard a base from the enemy, soon they would fail and lose it to the enemy...

Whoever if u plan to add player/clan owned bases, wich can be destroyed (and after some time) rebuilded by themselfs, this would be rather neat =)

I mean beeing able to "Capture the Base" would be annoying in the long run

the best would be clan/player owned bases with customizalble interiors/defense systems and a place to put your ship(s?). like in Ulitima online where the base/home is also the clan's place to add/delete members. ...
....

yeah and if you can add new systems you can add several (small) systems with a base in it players can capture with like a 6 wing squedron of NPC guards and buyable (modified) weaponplatforms...

Of course this is a MOD so the gameplay rules would be changed - it would be setup more like a regular online game, like Tribes1/2 ( as I mentioned in the first post )...

Anyway, that makes no sense because ALL MULTIPLAYER GAME SERVERS ARE 24/7 ... and a player or clan cannot be online to guard a flag 24/7 .. but it still works right?

Think about it, new game modes do not HAVE To be played the same as the original game - thats the point of a mod .

hi all!
im quite new but this idea sounds great. im actually placing new bases and jumpgates. next part i want to try is to make a complete new world with just a few start bases and a lot of free space for player owned stations. the player should not only be able to build bases, weapon plattforms and such stuff should be possible too. automatic turrents would be the best offline defense.

Thats what players dont get... If i come with a titan and want something ill kill it no matter how ****ing strong it is... And the only thing that can match a Titan is the Eagle since it can evade the titan and actually take a titan down...
