If the ini file can be modified, prices for example, how does this come into play with multiplayer? do all clients use the server-side INI file to run off, or is it local? I hope server side, for our sake because if values are set locally then, need i go further... has anyone tested this out yet?

Another question, does the INI file have anything related to damage, etc, etc, or is that all hard coded into the system somehow, I would love to change the damage of impacts becuase they are far too weak in my opinion, chasing through debris fields isnt as much fun when u can bounce off things 15 times before you die ;-)

My 2 cents,

-Vile

I'm pretty sure everything is kept and maintained server-side, to prevent cheating. I even tested it earlier today with my favorite memory address editing program. I could change my money (gave myself $50,000), but it kept reverting to what it "really" was, which is what the server knew it to be. Even when I froze the memory location, where the number wouldn't change, I would see it drop to what it really was when I bought something, and immediately raise to what I set it to, but it never "really" changed. I even tested trying to raise a rep by hiring a hacker. While my inventory screen said I had over $50,000, and the hacker wanted only $27,000, since the server knew I only had around $5,000, the guy would say I didn't have enough. With that said, I think it's going to be fairly difficult to cheat on MP, without somehow messing with things server-side. That's good news for us.

The next files that needs to be decoded are the .FL files...

Replying to SirCarcass post btw.
Hmm, yeah thats how I tested it and for me it kept reverting back as you said. I even tested with bribing when locking a adress, the character said I didn´t have enough money. But if you go to rep screen you´ll see that the rep changed anyway. Also even if it keeps reverting back to what you had, you CAN still purchase the equipment if you have locked the amount. And if you remove the lock on the adress and try and buy something and you exceeded your "real" amount earlier you will instantly get 0 credits instead.

If you buy a ship i.e. a Rhino, the server will save the amount you locked in the adress at, into the save file. So as you see cheats works and this is a problem in MP.

If anyone understands this dribble just typed maybe a patch could be produced. =)

not really a huge exploit there. any server admin worth a rats behind should be able to catch that.

Ive changes weapon prices on my client to 1$, after joining any server i was able to purchase the changes items for my local price of 1$... this really sucks... this will break the games neck.... rip

I haven't tried multiplayer yet since I'm still on the demo - but I'm now flying an Order Very Heavy Fighter... which I purchased for 1,000 and outfitted with 6 magma hammers (at $1 each).

If the servers really don't check that stuff we're in large trouble until DA comes out with a patch...

This is bad.....

I just messed with my ini files, then logged on the the Elite server. I'm level 12, with about $32,000, but bought an Anubis at Manhatten for $101, which can hold 30 nanobots and shield batteries (up from 29), and has a cargo hold of 170 (up from 70).

I suggest making Elite password protected when FL is released and put a sticky in the multiplayer forums, and maybe something on the main page, with the password.
