Dynamic Economy?

I was looking at the source code for flhook and I had a crazy idea. With some tweaks, flhook could provide the capabilities to run a server with a dynamic universe. Right now flhook provides functions that keep track of when players enter/exit a base and also functions that examine a player's cargo. If you combine these it would be possible to track who buys/ sells what where. The question I have is, is it possible to control commodity prices server side? If so we have all the pieces needed to make the next big step in modding.
