I was more thinking of how to change the effect completely. Like instead of the flame becoming larger, the atmospheric burn effect happens, or something...

You can mix some of the existing ones and also change their size (Cant' give you exact instructions since it's pretty random what you have to search for)

As for changing the normal cruise flame into the atmospheric burn effect wouldn't you just have to switch those two!? ;-) You can also use projectile effects (or any effect) as cruise flame effect! Just play around with it... :-)

so what file do I edit it to change the effect, that's one thing that I'm wondering.

effects.ini

Where all other effects are stored m8! I can't tell you exact what do edit and how since I don't know what exactly you wish to edit!

But it's that file you need to look at... And of course along with some of the other ini's in the FX folder! :-)

Thnx, I've scrolled through the effects.ini before, but I don't remeber seeing the cruise effect. I'll check it more thourghly l8er 2-nite.

There's also more than one flam effect... What you're looking for is something like this to change:

[Effect
nickname = gf_br_smallengine01_fire
effect_type = EFT_ENGINE_FIRE
vis_effect = gf_br_smallengine01_fire
vis_generic = gf_min_smallengine02_fire

[Effect
nickname = gf_br_smallengine02_fire
effect_type = EFT_ENGINE_FIRE
vis_effect = gf_br_smallengine02_fire
vis_generic = gf_min_smallengine02_fire

[Effect
nickname = gf_br_smallengine03_fire
effect_type = EFT_ENGINE_FIRE
vis_effect = gf_br_smallengine03_fire
vis_generic = gf_min_smallengine02_fire

These are some Bretonia engine flame effect... The cruise flame is in the same as the normal flame you see... Which means multiple effects in one .ale!

You can always try to use windows search function to find the linking of files! :-)

for example search for "gf_br_smallengine01_fire" and see which files are connected with that effect...

hope I helped a bit! :-)

ok, I'm a little confused. Now those are the effects freelancer uses for the cruise? Or are you saying that there's more to it?

Post Thu Aug 09, 2007 2:50 am

Yes... effects like gf_br_smallengine01_fire contains both the normal flame for when you fly in normal ship speed and the flame for cruise speed!

So if you want to edit the color(s) of a cruise effect you will also edit the normal flame effect! All in one package! :-)

Well, i kno from editing egines, that the cruise effect only works if there's an engine tail (whatever it's called), and i personally would like to keep the flame, but change the larger flame thing to something else. And what i'm wondering, is if I change those effects as above, will that also remove the flame?
