Ships moving strange

Hi!

This question is probably not a new one. I have this for a long time but could find no solution so far.If the ai flies large ships, sometimes they begin lifting up and down when moving, especially when docking on moors.

I think they are trying to not to get in each others way so they dodge each other. That is good but looks horrible. I also understand that its necessary otherwise they just collide and collide forever...

Is there a way to apply some settings to control that?

Note: I got special npc ships that have the HpMount on the nosetip to be able moor correctly.

Thank is advance:Mancer

No one here?

you know there are - maybe theres a reason why no one responded...like they aren't familiar with the problem you're complaining about, or a fix for it if they are.. *shrug*

Right. But people of the great mods using big ships surely know about this...

I didn't respond because I've never had this problem. You could try putting HpMount back to where it used to be one some ships and see if that makes a difference. Thats the only thing I can think of unless your ships are using engines for fighters and their strafe force is really high...

Could be lag too if you're running it online I guess...

It seems that even AI ships have a "sense" of where they are in space.
The only time I've noticed odd/out of the ordinary movements is during MP mode...and there seems to be little, if anything we can really do about it. We can try to adjust the mass of the ships so they are "heavier" to slow those movements down.
Consider how much a "true" super transport would really weigh. (thousands to millions of tons) . That and take into consinderation the amount of mass involved with movement and the reaponse time for such mass to respond to manuvering forces.

Two possible fixes here:
1. Change the engine
2. Change the mass

If your refering to this sort of see-sawing action then I'm afraid I've seen it a few times, and usually in mods that have tryed to get to smart with the ship flight dynamics and the engine settings, and in some cases when they change the dynamics of the Fl universe, players might like the changes but the AI hates them, the truth is that the AI is primative and can't cope with changes outside it's parameters.

Yes thats the behaviour i mentioned on your picture. And i played with the mass, however it seems to me it affects acceleration and collision only.
The strafe force is high on the ships i use, i will play with them, thanks for the tip. I got some ships coming up, hopefully i may release them soon. Thank you all.

After some experimenting I've discovered that the seesawing is caused by the ship handling, this means your settings are beyond what the primative AI can handle. The steering_torque, angular_drag & rotation_inertia are what's causeing it, try lowering/raising them to something similar to a vanilla ship of the same size.
