Big ships Cmp extraction

Hi! Has anyone successfully extracted the battleships and large transports mesh from cmp into ms3d or other formats(VRML)?
A while ago i planned to remodel these ships and im thinking about this right know too. But all i get is a chaos of vertexes when imported. Either they are to big or the poly count is too high for milkshape, or there is something else.
Any help would be wonderful. Thank you in advance.

Take a look in The TLR Texture and Model Exchange and you'll find a link to some of the bigger ships that I've managed to importer and fix (a lot of work went into some of them, bloody importer).

The importer can only import the VMS from the exporters CMPs and the 112.VMS from some of the original models. The 152.VMS & 212.VMS that are in a lot of the models just give you an explosion of vertices, they have slightly different coding that the importer just can't handle.

Here's hopeing the new Importer that Colin Sanby's working on will import them properly, but as it's still being tested and I'm not one of the testers I don't know how far on it is.

**shuffles off with a new headache**

Thank you. Ill look into it. Hopefully something nice will come out of it.

well the big capships really need retexturing - if that were done it would be quite a nice contribution, if released as a freebie to the community

(detail mapping is cool but the end result is not, at least how it was done with the capships )
