Weapon Detailing

Ok, in my TC mod that I am currently working on, I want to be able to have utility items, such as flood lights, mining lasers, ect. I have figured out that I will have to do these with weapons which brings me to my question. Is it possible to make a weapon so that it isn't a weapon, but instead a flood light, where when you turn the weapon on, the light is on, but when you turn the weapon off, the light is off? Also, is it possible to make weapons that don't do any damage to ships, but can be used to destroy space rocks, i.e. mining laser?

Finally, I was wondering if it's possible for a weapon to need two types of ammo in order to fire, or is it limited to only one? And if it is only limited to one, is it possible to make a gun that can use different types of ammo insted of just the one for that specific weapon?

Why dont you go trial & error?
Give a weapon a damage of 0 and you will see that it works.

the more important question i see here is "can you make light mountable equipment?"

as far i am aware many ppl tried to do this before and failed

well it's a little more than just mounting a light, it's more of can i make an object to turn on and off that shines a beam of light?

but as usual you need to do step 1 before you can step 2
and if step 1 is not possible to do then you dont even need to think about step 2 because that will be also not possible then

It's possible to make lights equipment for your ship, but it just takes a lot of time setting it up.

textures that glow in dark.. they dont need a lightsource to be visible

But from your original post, this wont really be dynamically shining light on anything like an actual search light. It does just as its name implies, glows parts of your texture with emitted light, but it really is not bright.

You could mod a wep with zero damage but have a quick refire and bright beam fx so the effect would be like sending a pulse light out from your ship.

It isn't possible to make a weapon that destroys asteroids but doesn't damage ships. However, asteroids have very little HP (2, IIRC), so you could make a gun that just does 2 damage. Shield regeneration would cancel that damage out anyway, but it would be enough to destroy asteroids.

the asteroid thing can be done with sheilds. if you make a gun to do high damage to tradelane sheilds but none to any other type you have a trade lane disabler.
