Docking with player flown battle ship (and in flak88, statio

well i was pondering this and came up with this

maybe its possible to map a key to open the docks and cargo bays...

and maybe model a sort of bowl on the inside so that more then four fighters can fit in it...

The problem with adding a "bowl" into the center of stations is that even if you get a ship inside, it will only bounce once or twice before being thrown outside the ship. I've fit 2 players once into my Kusari Battleship bay, but even with just 1 when the Battleship moves it catapults the fighter. The problem with docking with a player-ship is that you can't specify a base to go to, so the game insta-crashes when the player actually docks with said Battleship. However, in multiplayer, moor mounts don't put you into a base, they just (I think) attach you to the object at hand - and if we could glue players to the inside of a docking bay (or in other areas of the ship), we'd be golden.


anyone have any idea wether this is possible?

This is near impossible with the way Freelancer works. In order to dock with something, this needs to be set up as a base in each systems ini files and a playership would be moving from system to system and there for woudl nto be in each systems ini files as a base so it would cause a crash.

The idea is very nice and has been thought of before by many, but it does nto work as the game crashes due to the "base" moving around.

No way to change an ordinary dock point into a moor point? Prolly not, but it'd be sweet... And who is to say that it would kick the ship out of the "bowl"? I know I've gotten caught in the crook or Nomad battleships flying... perhaps if you turn down the collision effects in constants.ini, say opened the hole for the dock in the bottom of most battleships...

maybe we could change the dock on the moor point to not transport the player anywhere, just hold the ship to it.

Moors themselves don't transport you anywhere, you just stick to them. That isn't the problem. The issue is, you can't (to my knowledge) add a moor point to a flyable ship. If you could, this would be set. However, I think the bowl idea might have promise... take a look at, say, a Bretonian Battleship. You can make it flyable, with that little chute in the bottom that is used for docking when it's a solar object. Now, if you were to open them doors, with the collision damage factor turned down in constants, it could be a similar idea - a funky type of delivery system for fighters (Wouldn't have much more practical use than formation though...)

Don't forget that the cruiser/battleship class ships in the original game have moor points on them. They function as bases and ships.

This "feaure" works on HC Server ^^.There they use flhook as a command for docking with flying battleships.You just select player with battleship and you write something in the chat and then you just dock.

Hmm... I'll have to experiment with that tonight. You couldn't technically dock with them, it'd be more of a fancy delivery system for fighters into battle... but it'd be sweet!

Real docking with a "ship" just doesnt work. You would need to change the engine code base to make this work I guess.

What is working is a mobile respawn, so you launch at the battleship after undock: Click here
I wouldnt call this a modding breakthrough, as it is rather a small "hack".
